Question about 2002 Chevrolet Silverado

2 Answers

2002 Express Van 1500 Rear heat- A/C constantly receives a flow of anti freeze and therefore is always blowing hot air. A/C will start up when called for, but the hot anti-freeze renders it null and void. One of the anti-freeze hoses ruptured recently, I repaired it and right after that, the flow of anti-freeze stopped and the rear heat-A/C were working as they should. However, the next day it was back to usual. Is there a relay switch or some device that is not functioning.

Something is allowing the anti-freeze and the freon into the rear heater core when it shouldn't. Both< I think, should be in a stand by mode until I set the heater-A/C control and ask for it. I just had the freon checked after repairing the hose. At this time, I don't have any other leaks.

Not all rear heaters are also A/C units, they are for heat only. I have a 2002 Chevy Express Explorer with rear heater unit. Only the coolant/heater hoses connect to it, there are no A/C lines going to it, thus it only works as a heater.

If your AC isn't blowing out cold air, but does blow out warm air, it could be the freon level. Make sure the AC clutch is ingaged and check the AC relay in the fuse box under the hood. Double check the freon level . Smell antifreeze without seeing steam or finding a leak? Don't worry, it is a leak, it's just too small to find. If you smell the leak only when you get out of the car, then its "cap steaming". If you smell the antifreeze inside the auto, with the windows up, that's a problem with the heater core or the hoses to the heater core. Get the ac pressure test done at any local car garage, this will confirm if there is leak or the coolant/antifreeze is low.---------- Thanks.

Is this a conversion van? There is a heater control valve which controls the the flow of antifreeze when the ac is turned it bypasses the heater cores. To prevent the issue you are referring too. I am wondering if its a conversion van though because the rear ac may not be GM factory ac if it is.Whatever company that does the conversions may have added it. If it is a passenger van that is factory completed there is a four way heater control valve.

My 2004 Pontiac Aztek isn't blowing heat. It blows cold air. I had a coolant flush in december.

You probably have an air bubble and therefore doesn't have enough anti freeze in the system. Carefully remove the radiator cap when the engine is running and verify it and/or notice the hot/cold marking on the overflow tank. The system needs to be full to heat.

2004 Chevy express van 5.3 1500 AWD new water pump and thermostat but thermostat doesnt appear to be opening lower radiator hose is cold heater blowing cold air, could it bethe coolant temp sensor ?where is...

thermostats open by virtue of the coolant getting hot and expanding a wax insert that opens the flap valve. If the thermostat is not opening then one reason is that it is in the wrong way. The body of the unit has to face the head or coolant and not the hose. Next check the cores for blockages by having a flow test done on the radiator. Sensors have nothing to do with thermostats .All they do is turn fans on or tell the CPU when the coolant is hot enough to reduce the richness of the air fuel mixture.. Ensure that there is no air lock in the cooling system as it affects the heater operation if there is air in the heater and the hot water will not flow through the core. Ensure that the heater control module (tap) is allowing the hot water to flow to the heater core.

Had the same problem on a 2006 pilot LX. Hot from rear heater because it comes from a separate heater core. Front heat low because ball valve faulty that controls coolant flow to heater core. The lever on the valve would move freely but the connection to the shaft of the ball valve was stripped. Ball valve may be located on the firewall under the hood. Ball valve very poor design.

heater core is probably what was changed,..a little radiator under the dash that the hot water runs through and a fan behind it to blow at it thus giving you heat,...pretty much thats it in a nutshell,...sounds like something still leaking under there, (anti-freeze smell),... fill it back up with anti-freeze (non-toxic type so you don't polute) and drive to where you gotta go,....go to your mechanic to find that leak,.good luck, and do a hole shot for me! thanks, cracklin joe

My heater in my dodge caravan does not blow hot air. When my engine finnaly heats up, it blows only warm air. Its a 2006

First of all make sure your anti-freeze is at specification level's as well as make sure With the engine cold start the vehicle remove the radiator cap and make sure you see the flow of anti-freeze while keeping your hands as well as your clothing away from moving parts feel both hoses going into your heater core if the one on top of hot one on the bottom is cold then you have a Clogged heater core in which case you will need to flush the system . a simple garden hose will do the trick simply remove Both hoses to the heater core with the hose at the bottom line apply the garden hose until liquid comes out at the top of the other hose will probably see a lot of gunk. Also ensure that the vacuum line to the round ball under the hood is connected and not dry rotted.this will cause a vacuum leak to not allow the switch to fully engage from cold to hot. I hope this helps you.

Rear air a/c

Probably plugged or failed expansion valve on rear evaporator. Both front and rear are plumbed in parallel so if the front is cold, a problem with refrigerant flow at back unit almost has to be in the expansion valve.
