I am not sure I understand what you are asking but I will tell you that is you have a faulty fuel cap or a leaking fule filler neck, this can cause a check engine light to come on. I have seen people leave the fuel cap too loose and the light come on then Screw it tight and the light goes off. Hope this helps

Thank You, I baught gas cap from buick dealer, so I know it's not that. I looked at the fuel filler
neck and it's all rusted. I need to know how much part is and if I can do this repair myself. I am single , mother of two kids, and don't have much money. Or rufley how much a fix it shop would charge without ripping me off.
    Thank You so very much!!

This part is probably going to be a dealer item and I would not think it is a job you want to deal with. It requires lowering the fuel tank to gain access where the filler needs to be installed. As fas as a price...i would think a mechanic shop could do this job in 2 hrs so no more than $100 labor plus the part would be close.

if the flap is intact you can try spraying some wd-40 on its hinge. If its missing you need a filler neck for your fuel tank.

Fuel filler neck

Clean off the rust

The Check Light doesn't mean the
filler neck is the issue, unless you got
a code for a small Evap Leak & then
it could be any of 10 things & maybe
a bad gas cap

99 buick century i cannot put gas down my filler neck it keeps over flowing and i know it is not full

The vent tube for the gas tank and filler neck is probably clogged or pinched shut. If you get under the car and look at the filler neck you should see a 2nd tube coming off of it, that is the vent tube.

What can i do to fix the problems of po440,441 and 446?

Hello, and welcome to FixYa. Please allow us to assist you.

You have a verry common condition; we see this quite often.

The codes you mention are usually caused by one (or a combination) of the three things that follows.

1. You do not have the 'factory' fuel tank cap fitted to the car; 'Aftermarket' fuel caps do not seal properly, and the leak of thefuel fumes under the cap will light the light.

2. The o-ring that seals the cap to the fuel filler neck is worn, or otherwise compromised, which will also allow the fumes to escape and light the light.

3. There could be rust on the filler neck tube, which would not allow a tight seal between the cap
s o-ring seal and the filler neck.

I would recommend replacing the fuel cap with a factory replacement, and inspect the filler neck sealing surface for rust buildup. If you see rust, a replacement filler neck will be in order.

Thanks for choosing FixYa fo assistance today.

How do i replace the oil fiter neck from a 3.8 buick

I have a 1999 3.8L Buick engine. The filler neck has a large o-ring and twists into place on the front top of the valve cover. The filler neck only needs about a half-turn to be in posiiton. It is keyed with pastic tabs on the neck so it only goes in one-way. Let me know fi this helps or you need more infromation.

Replacing fuel filler neck on 2000 Crown Vic

Good news, no the tank doesn't have to come down. However, there needs to be less than 3/4 tank. Jack it up and set on a jack stand, remove the wheel, four screws housing to pipe, filler pipe sensing hose from filler pipe, screw retaining the cap, four retaining screws from filler pipe, screw from filler pipe retainer, slide into the tank until it can be rotated and pulled out through the fender. lube the tank grommet with clean oil and reverse the removal for install.
