this is the second tank of fuel since the problem started-------the first time the amount of fuel was less than a normal fill-up---------problem did not go away after fueling-------this time let it get lower and fueld up, still the same problem----------Have tried removing the positive battery cable for a few hours---no change-------after fueling and being on a "safe" street tried zig-zagging the car also abrupt braking incase the fuel guage float was stuck--------again no change

Hi, what is the year and model of the vehicle? Most likely it is a problem with the fuel sending unit. A work around to not replacing it is to fill the car and either go off of your city mpg and fill it up, and if you know the capacity of your fuel tank and how much you use you can get a closer guess to how much your using. Otherwise you will need to replace the fuel sending unit most likely.
Thank you,
Lee

It is either fuse, broken wire, gauge or sender unit. If other dash gauges are working then it is not fuse.

The most common problem is the tank, bad sender unit on fuel pump, but you do need to check it out before replacing
. rek('_tx8');

Do you top off the gas after the auto-fill stops? If you do, that is the problem. Most BMW's fuel gauges do that if you top them off after the pump stops. I believe there is a charcoal canister that prevents overflow, and there is a vacuum line that helps/controls the fuel gauge. Once the overflow gas evaporates, the gauge starts working again.

Note that some gasoline companies put in a particular additive to avoid sulfur corrosion of gas tank sensors.

Hope helps.

Sounds like some of the symptoms on 05 of any customer in here. Lots of weird electrical things finally diagnosed as a failed Instrument Cluster. Check it (possible under warranty).

Low fuel light on, fuel gauge shows empty, although I have filled tank up several times.

You need to replace the fuel level sending unit, it is located inside the fuel tank.

2001 saturn l-200 shows tank empty when it is full

More than likely a bad fuel sending unit which is located in the tank. Call your local parts store to confirm but I believe the pump and sending unit is replaced as one unit.

Just filled the gas tank in my 2006 f-350 turbo diesel super duty (6.0), started the truck and the guage showed a full tank. Drove down the road about 1/10 of a mile and the guage dropped to dead empty...

A loose connection on the sending unit could cause the problem but also moisture in the tank in cold weather could also be a factor in which i would add fuel line antifreeze to a full tank of fuel..........Hope this helps you out.

This morning I had 1/2 tank of gas. I stopped to

the fuel level gauge just went out na dthats why the light is on. to replace it you have to replace the entire sending unit. cost is $500.00 plus to have replaced. if you can live with it and keep check on your milage, I would wait for the pump to go out.

Low Fuel Panel Indicator On

I know if your gas cap is leaking the low fuel light will come on but I never heard of the gas guage showing empty unless you have a float problem. The float is in the tank.
