can you show me detail pictures of step by step - prev.gif next.gif REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION Upper ball joints are not replaceable. The upper ball joint is part of the upper control arm bushing joint and is not serviced separately. If the upper ball joints are found to be defective, the entire upper control arm bushing joint assembly must be replaced. Lower Ball Joint INSPECTION

  1. Support the vehicle in normal driving position with ball joints loaded.
  2. Wipe the grease fitting and checking surface, so they are free of dirt and grease. The checking surface is the round boss into which the grease fitting is threaded.
  3. The checking surface should project outside the cover. If the checking surface is inside the cover, replace the lower arm assembly. prev.gifnext.gif

How to change the control arm on a 96 thunderbird?

UPPER CONTROL ARM:

Do not disassemble the upper arm. If the ball joint or bushings are faulty, or the upper arm is damaged, the entire upper arm must be replaced.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  2. Remove the front wheels. Support the lower control arm assembly with a floor jack.
  3. Separate the upper ball joint from the steering knuckle using a ball joint separator tool.
  4. Remove the self-locking nuts from the upper arm anchor bolts. Remove the upper arm from the vehicle.

Do not disassemble the upper arm. If the ball joint or bushings are faulty, or the upper arm is damaged, the entire upper arm must be replaced.

I want 2 know if i can get my 1990 mercury grand marquis ball joints regreased

All you need to do is look at the bottom of them to see if they have a grease nipple underneath , most newer Fords do not have them though and it is easier to just replace the control arms and BJ together. Ball joints without grease fittings are usually riveted into place and have to be drilled out, making it a difficult job, so it is easier to replace the control arm and balljoint together. You need to have an alignment done when the repair is finished for a complete job.

How to fix a ball joint in a ford tempo

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION The lower ball joint is integral to the lower control assembly and cannot be serviced individually. Any movement of the lower ball joint detected as a result of inspection requires replacement of the lower control arm assembly.
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  3. Remove the nut and bolt securing the ball joint to the steering knuckle.
  4. Remove the nut and bolt securing the control arm to the vehicle sub frame. To install:
  5. Install the control arm assembly to the vehicle sub-frame using the nut and bolt. Tighten the nut to 69-86 ft. lbs. (93-117 Nm).
  6. Install the lower ball joint into the steering knuckle and secure it with the nut and bolt. Tighten the nut to 32-43 ft. lbs. (43-59 Nm).
  7. Install the wheel and tire assembly and lower the vehicle.
  8. Road test the vehicle.

How do you replace ball joints

Removing the Ball Joint Step 1 Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheel assembly with the ball joint you need to replace. Do not remove the lug nuts.
Step 2 Set the transmission in neutral (manual) or park (automatic) and raise the wheel off the ground using a floor jack. Then support the car on a jack stand.
Step 3 Chock the rear wheels and apply the parking brake.
Step 4 Remove the wheel lugs and the wheel assembly.
Step 5 Remove the mounting nut and dished washer that secure the stabilizer bar to the control arm. Use a wrench or ratchet and socket.
Step 6 Unscrew and remove the mounting bolt and nut holding the inner side of the control arm to the car's body. This will relieve the tension on the stabilizer bar. Use a wrench to hold the mounting bolt as you unscrew the nut with a wrench or ratchet and socket.
Step 7 Unscrew the bolt on the steering knuckle that holds the control-arm ball joint to the knuckle. Use a wrench or ratchet and socket.
Step 8 Spread the steering knuckle joint that holds the control-arm ball joint to the knuckle. Use a large screwdriver or pry bar. Then separate the ball joint from the steering knuckle.
Step 9 Pull the control arm from the stabilizer bar.
Step 10 Remove the stabilizer bar spacer from the control arm and keep it in a secure place. You will need to use it on the new control-arm ball joint assembly.
Installing the Ball Joint Step 1 Insert the new control-arm ball joint stud into the steering knuckle joint. As you look through the mounting bolt hole on the steering knuckle, align the notch on the ball joint stud with the hole. Insert a new ball joint mounting bolt and start a new nut on the bolt. Tighten the nut.
Step 2 Mount the stabilizer bar spacer in the control arm, then insert the stud bolt at the end of the stabilizer bar into the control arm mounting hole and spacer.
Step 3 Set the other end of the control arm in its mounting position and insert the mounting bolt. Then start the mounting nut on the bolt by hand.
Step 4 Hold the head of the mounting bolt that secures the control arm to the car's body using a wrench, then tighten the nut.
Step 5 Secure the stabilizer bar to the control arm with the dished washer and mounting nut. Tighten the nut.
Step 6 Install the wheel assembly and lugs. Tighten the lugs with the lug wrench just enough to hold the wheel assembly firmly in place.
Step 7 Lower the vehicle and finish tightening the wheel lugs.
Step 8
Remove the chocks from the rear wheels.

I have a 97 thunderbird V8. I bought the ball joint for it but i need to know how to replace it myself. It is the lower ball joint on the passenger side.

Hi, to make the process much more simple you will need to rent, buy, barrow a ball joint press. this tool set will make the job 10 times easier. you can rent these sets from advance auto parts and return them to get all of your money back, its pretty nifty. with the tool you will be able to press the ball joint out and back in. first and foremost put the cars subframe on a jackstand so the car doesnt fall on you in the middle of the job. next remove the cotter pin out of the ball joint and tie rod nuts. then remove the tie rod end nut and remove the tie rod from the spindle, then remove the ball joint nut and separate the lower control arm by prying the control arm down, then use a bungee cord to hold the strut/spindle out of the way, then use the ball joint tool to remove and replace the ball joint. Putting it back together is just the reverse of taking it apart.

How do i replace cv joint on a ford taurus 2003 i cant get the control arm off please help

The control arm is attached with the ball joint, remove the nut on the ball joint, and hit around the stud of the ball joint, hit it hard, but do not hit the stud of the ball joint,it will jar it loose, then use a large pry bar,and stick in the control arm and pry downwards,It is not easy to get the ball joint stud out of the spindle, but it is the only way.but make sure the stud of the ball joint is free from the control arm then push down on the control arm(pry)
