Hi the problem you are having is with the heater matrix it mst be leaking what this is is a small radiator behind the center of the dashboard.

usually if thermostat has failed and stuck shut then the pressure builds up and can cause this rad to blow. so this will need checking as well.

But the problem is this job is a nightmare you have to take most of the center console out and most of the dash, its not for the novice to do as you need specialist tools and know a lot about electrics as their is a lot of wires that need unclipping to get the dash off.

but another thing you need to bare in mind is that the head gasket could have gone and this could be the reason the rad has also blown, its usually down to the thermostat but say 1 out of 10 times its due to the head gasket blowing.

please dont attempt this if you are a novice, if you are going to do it yourself then your going to need to get a haynes workshop manual to do the work as their is a lot involved and it will take a few days to do.

be warned it is a very big job

let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

Hi, i replace the thermostat and water pump flashed the radiator has coolant but still overheating, what else could it be its golf 4 tdi diesel 2002. Thank you

Radiator may have rust/salt deposits inside, if that is case its cheaper and better to change the radiator. Also for future don't use normal tap water in radiator, use a coolant + ph balanced water meant for radiators to reduce salt buildup inside radiator.

Also check the radiator fan is working ok and rotating in the right direction, sucking cool air inside not blowing out hot engine air to the radiator. Some electric fans can have wires mixed up so they start in the wrong direction. (make sure fan is sucking cool air outside towards the engine).

In some cars, radiator fan has a top cover that stops hot engine air getting sucked by the fan, if your car has it, make sure it is fitted properly and is in good order.

Some cars have a fan fitted on the AC condenser, make sure this fan is working as well.

Just had the idle air control motor replaced and within 1 day, the a/c stopped working and a lot of fluid saturated the front passenger side floor board. Can this recent repair be related to this issue as...

You might take it back to who ever changed the idle air control motor and ask them about it. They could have knocked the drain tube out, or plugged it to stop it from dripping on them or the floor.
You can try this...

Could be the drain tube is partially clogged. It is usually located on the fire-wall or down towards the floor pan under the car. It is usually close to where the A/C lines go thru the fire-wall. About 1/2 inch diameter sticking straight out but may have a 90 degree elbow pointing down.
Also, it's been extra hot and humid all over and moisture could be freezing inside the unit when on MAX A/C, then suddenly melting when switched to normal. This opens the outside air door and allows warm/hot air into the unit instead of recirculating the cold air inside the car. The drain may not be able to handle a large, sudden quantity of water.
Perform a "driveway" test. Open the hood, start engine and run the A/C on normal with the windows or doors open. Locate the drain tube by looking for water dripping. Once located twist 2 or 3 pipe cleaners together and verify the tube is clean. Then close the doors/windows and switch to MAX A/C. Check for water dripping. If it stops dripping, water is freezing inside and now you know why!

My 04 cavalier 2.2 is throwing the water? it does build up pressure but still throws it. it has a new thermostat and the radiator has had a leak stopper added to it? i have not flushed it yet...

Check for presence of exhaust in the cooling system.
Never use stop leak as it plugs everything, but too late.
Also check for air bleeds that keep the system from fully filling.
Fill the cooling system with heater on high, or risk blocking that entire area.
Pressure test the system, paying particular attention to the amount that you have to pump to get pressure, an indication of air trapped in the system.

Run the vehicle until warm, shut down and feel all around on the radiator. Cool spots indicate plugged areas.

Form of liquid, looks like water leaking into passenger side floor board.

I would have to say it is probably your heater core or one of the hoses that run to it. The heater core is basically a small radiator but is located inside the car so when you want to heat the inside of the vehicle, the water that normally circulates through the engine is redirected through the heater core and with the aid of a blower throws the hot air out.

Car is using water

Better have it checked for a possible headgasket leak. This can destroy an engine!!! (They can leak coolant into the engine oil)

It sounds like your heater core is stopped up, or be sure your coolant is flowing, and picking up heat from your engine...Thermostat, water pump, etc.
