Question about 2003 Mini Cooper

Open Question

My tachometer isnt working and the battery is being drained. Brought it to the dealer to do a diagnostic test and they said its an eletrical wire issue. Any suggestions?

Replace battery and alternator 2x in 6 months


Get a cheap multimeter and test for drain, sometimes it is the starter, check the battery at all off, and running, your parts I hope are warrantied have them both tested and checked, The starter and or coil can cause weird electrical issues and a bad ground could be causing everything to work harder. You need an honest mechanic who cares about solving the problems.

Ignition timing for 1989 toyota corrolla


1988-95 MODELS

This service procedure is for setting base ignition timing. Refer to underhood emission sticker for any additional service procedure steps and/or specifications.
These engines require a tachometer hook-up to the check connector-see illustrations. NEVER allow the tachometer terminal to become grounded; severe and expensive damage can occur to the coil and/or igniter.
Some tachometers are not compatible with this ignition system, confirm the compatibility of your unit before using.
  1. Warm the engine to normal operating temperature. Turn off all electrical accessories. Do not attempt to check timing specification or idle speed on a cold engine.

  1. Connect a tachometer (connect the tachometer (+) terminal to the terminal IG- of the check connector) and check the engine idle speed to be sure it is within the specification given in the Tune-Up Specifications chart or underhood emission sticker.
  2. Remove the cap on the diagnostic check connector. Using a small jumper wire or Special Service Tool SST 09843-18020, short terminals TE1 (test terminal No. 1) and E1 (earth-ground) together.
  3. If the timing marks are difficult to see, shut the engine OFF and use a dab of paint or chalk to make them more visible.
  4. Connect a timing light according to the manufacturer's instructions.

  1. Start the engine and use the timing light to observe the timing marks. With the jumper wire in the check connector the timing should be to specifications (refer to underhood emission sticker as necessary) with the engine fully warmed up (at correct idle speed) and the transmission in correct position. If the timing is not correct, loosen the bolts at the distributor just enough so that the distributor can be turned. Turn the distributor to advance or ****** the timing as required. Once the proper marks are seen to align with the timing light, timing is correct.

  1. Without changing the position of the distributor, tighten the distributor bolts and double check the timing with the light (check idle speed as necessary).
  2. Disconnect the jumper wire or Special Service Tool (SST) at the diagnostic check connector.

This jumper will be used repeatedly during diagnostics in later sections. Take the time to make a proper jumper with correct terminals or probes. It's a valuable special tool for very low cost.
  1. Refer to the underhood emission sticker for timing specification and any additional service procedure steps. If necessary, repeat the timing adjustment procedure.
  2. Shut the engine OFF and disconnect all test equipment. Roadtest the vehicle for proper operation.

After disconnect and reconnect the battery of my opel antara, the indication of odometer displays only 888... for all indications. How can i reset it?

Instrument cluster consists of electronic analog gauges, various warning lights, and optional tachometer. Vehicles equipped with tachometer have an electronic vacuum fluorescent transmission range indicator (PRND3L),odometer and trip odometer display. Vehicles without tachometer are equipped with a cable-operated transmission range indicator.
Instrument cluster is equipped with the following warning lights:
Battery voltage.
Cruise (speed control).
Door ajar.
Fasten seat belt.
Lift gate ajar.
Low fuel level.
Low windshield and washer level.
Traction Control.
The Body Control Module (BCM), which receives input from various sensors, sends display information to instrument cluster and operates gauges. Instrument cluster incorporates a self-test diagnostic feature to identify electronic problems. BCM, Powertrain Control Module (PCM), and Transmission Control Module (TCM) are continuously monitored by the diagnostic system.

SELF-DIAGNOSTICS
With ignition off, press and hold TRIP and RESET buttons while turning ignition switch to ON position. Continue to hold TRIP and RESET buttons until odometer window displays CODE (approximately 5 seconds). If problem exists, system will display diagnostic trouble codes. See DIAGNOSTIC CODE CHART table. If no problem exists, Code 999 (end test) will be displayed.

My nissan Almera S reg has no side lights or dash lights.All fuses seem ok.

Trying to hook a tachometer to a 93 gmc seirra 1500 350 were does the green wire go?


The "Green" wire from the tachometer should be attached to the negative side of the ignition coil only, and usually (but not always) it is a black wire with a white stripe or it is a solid white wire that will come off from the negative side of the ignition coil and often has a tab on the wire that says "Test" or "Tach" and the wire ends with an open black connector that is used for connecting a diagnostic device or tachometer for diagnostic purposes, and this is the wire that the green wire from the after-market tachometer should attach to. The "Red" wire should be attached to an "ignition" source connection on the fuse panel and have battery power when the key is in the "Run" position only, the "Yellow" or "White" wire should be connected to the "LPS" source on the fuse panel, and the "Black" wire should be connected to a good ground source and if the tachometer is not properly grounded then you will get a primary voltage shock from the ignition coil every time that you touch something metal inside of the vehicle. What could be the cause of my 2008 envoy battery not charging? it may sit for one day, the next will not start.


you may have a short in the car wireing or just a dud battery,, if the altornater is leaking back that would drain the battery as well try taking off a battery lead and let the car stand for a day or so,, if it starts right up its not the battery there is a drain in the car,, but dont take off the battery if you have not got your radio coad as you will lose the radio
