Need to know what ismounted on top of a starter for a 1992 ford f350 4x4, the soliknoid is still mounted on the firewall

You may need to replace the starter mounted solenoid. It may have burnt starter contacts, so it closes but makes no connection to the battery so the starter gets no power.

Thats he motor its located between the engine and the firewall, mounted directly on the engine..

1.) remove the negative pole form the battery.

2.) remove the top bolt holing the starter to the engine,

3.) swing the starter down and remove the electrical wires from it, label them so you will know what goes were.

4.) remove the bottom bolts holding h starter in place.

5.) install the new one in reverse

on the starter the starter relay is mounted on the firewall or inner fender google it and select images

On 1992 Ford Taurus 3.0L 6cyl the Starter Relay is located under hood, driver side, front side of strut tower, mounted on fenderwell.

The starter is located on the passenger side along side the oil pan of the engine but mounted to the bellhousing of the transmission. It is difficult to see from up top because of the exhaust manifold or header. From underneath the car with it jack and secured safely on jack stands and with the wheels blocked, you will find it inboard of the passenger side frame rail and exhaust.

If you need to change it, it is mounted with two 7/16" bolts which can be removed with a 9/16" wrench or socket. There will also be wiring to disconnect. Make sure you specify the year and also auto or standard transmissions as the starters are different.

Because of the Variety of mounting methods there are 2 to 4 bolts that should be visible as you look at the starter itself. Not counting the wiring connections. If this a sideways mounted motor with the Starter mounted on the front of the motor there will be 2 bolts holding it in place. If the motor is mounted regularly with the transmission extending under the vehicle the starter in on the rear of the motor near the firewall and will have up to 4 bolts holding it in place but most likely no more than 3. I would recommend getting a Haynes repair manual on the vehicle for more detailed instruction on removal and installation. This manual or a Chilton's manual are both available at the major Auto Parts stores and are fairly inexpensive.

You should find the starter relay on the passenger side firewall near were the heater hose enters the firewall.

The transmission range sensor , park neutral safety switch . Is fuse #23 60 amp in the engine bay fuse block good ?

There will be a little black resevoir to the right of the brake master cylinder. Its mounted to the firewall. When filling or topping off the fluid, make sure you remove the black rubber boot after the cap is removed. The resevoir itself will only hold a little fluid. Hope this helps you. P.S.
Check you positive side cable for corrosion and you might need to replace the cable because it runs from the battery direct to the starter and to the starter relay that is mounted on the right front fender under the hood. You have 2 (two) starter relays on your Explorer.
