Question about 1995 Buick Skylark

1 Answer

About 5 years ago my 95 buick skylark transmission went into safe mode for some reason. it still had park, reverse, neutral, but when put it into drive it would go into 3rd gear and stay there. It was still alright to drive but, a few days ago the transmission started to work again, just started woking again out of the blue. whats going on with it? thanks jason

Some issues with the engine or trans, can cause a third gear start (limp home mode) Dont get to happy it did not fix its self for good someone with a code reader might be able to steer you in the right direction ( A lot of codes get stored in the computer that never turn on the check ending lite ) Good Luck

2003 Buick century. After driving, shift to reverse, the starter kicks on. Can shift out of reverse and it will shut off and drive fine. Will not do it at startup. No NSS on tranny.

No NSS on tranny. the neutral safety switch is inside the transmission an it's called a Lever Assembly-Manual Shaft Detent with Internal Mode Switch (IMS) Connector 2 pin 16 , a white wire at the PCM - engine computer . Is park neutral in put to the PCM . Hooking up a factory or pofessional type scan tool to check this input before ripping the trans apart to replace this part is the ideal way to diagnose this problem . May even have a DTC stored .

Engine stalls when putting into gear

Hi Glen, Check all the vacuum hoses and make sure there are no leakages of air into the intake manifold. Check the plastic ducting between the air flow sensor and throttle body. It is advisable to have a diagnostic scan carried out on the vehicle. Regards John

this sounds like transmission failure as limp mode would allow reverse and 2nd gear only to allow you to drive to a shop to have it checked out.

1998 ford explorer 4wd no reverse gear, what could be the cause

It is a transmission problem. Had the same problem a few years ago and had to have the transmission rebuilt. I put it off for a while by not parking where I had to back up and if I had no choice, I put it in neutral and was pushed backwards until I could find the right person and price to get it fixed! Good luck.

I have a 1991 Buick Park Ave, my car will start but when I put in drive, reverse or neutral I can feel the transmission shift but it will not take off. Several times I put the car in neutral, rocked it...

I would first check to see if you have the proper transmission level of fluid. From your discription, it seems that the fluid is low. If it is full, you have some more major issues. Hope this helps you, Rick
