My 2001 trooper went from 19 miles to the gallon to 10, over night. Took it in for a slipping feeling and the first place told me transmision oil is burnt. Told me I need a new catalytic converter and repairs will be $1200.00 plus. My mpg have dropped in 2 days. I'm a girl and do not want to be taken advantage of again as Firestone just charged me $382.00 for a tune up, spark plug change, and fuel flush and neglected to tell me about the other repairs that it needed. what do you think?

Well, i must admit, that transmission fluid does not turn lrown overnight and should have been one of the things that firestone should have checked.......not to mention the cat converter....

my advice is it does sound like your transmission will require an overhaul, as inside the transmission there are things called bands which are friciton material (similar to brake pad material) and they surround the drum...and when this friction material comes off (wears) it gets absorbed by the oil and turns it from red to brown, and if you smelt it, it would smell like burnt toast.,....bad smell.....

due to the nature and cost of the job, I would look around for at least 2 quotes and see what you come up with, i would not necessarily go with the cheapest but with the person who treats you the right way and is upfront with everything....

It was good that you cam on here and asked us to provide you with info...if there is anything else we can do, please do not hesitate ....

2001 Isuzu Trooper 3.5L DOHC Motor...................... Burns approximately a 1 quart of motor oil every 3-400 miles. 10/30 Motor Oil. Whats the problem? 2nd question: Same vehicle, Torque on Demand 4WD...

The Isuzu 3.5's all burn about 1 quart between oil changes. It was an engineering flaw with that model engine. Some people have said that running full synthetic oil will correct the problem over time. Either way, it is extremely important that you check your oil regularly.

As for you second question: Torque on demand has at its heart wheel speed sensors which typically are the issue. Having a wheel speed sensor replaced will set you back about $300.

I hope I was helpful.

I have a 2001 trooper that it smell like bunt oil someone told me that i need to change the oil and that a trooper has diffrent places where diffrent oils need to be put and change.

Yes you do need to change those fluid pre you maintance, but if you smell burn oil you could have an oil leak some where dripping on the exhaust mag giving you that burn smell, have it check out.

Rpm's but not speed

Your transmission is slipping. Where was the gas coming out from? I don't think it's related to your problem, but I'd like to know where it's exiting the car/tank.

Car feels like its slipping or missing

Rule of thumb with ignition bits is, change one you change them all. This means Plugs and Leads mostly.
Saves headaches like the one you have now.
If 1 fails you can bet the rest are not far behind it.

Warranty for 2001 trooper with 110000 miles

I would consult an attorney in this case. A power train warranty should be regardless of ownership and only expire once milage or term from purchase date expires. I do know that Isuzu is pulling out of U.S. sales and your time is running out.

I want to check and change the transmision oil, but i don`t find

likely the fill tube is where you check the fluid if it's larger than the oil check tube
