Question about Lincoln Navigator L

1 Answer

I have a 2000 Lincoln Navigator and my speedometer starting fluttering in turn making the tranny shift harder. This just started happening yesterday. I replaced the speed sensor above the differential and that did not fix the speedometer issue. What else could it be? Thanks

This is a recent purchased vehicle about a week ago. The first two days I had the truck the tranny shifted great! No problems what so ever. It shifted almost like new. Then all of sudden the speedometer started going hay wire and that is when the tranny started to shfit different. I will check the fluid though. Thanks. I called the dealership and they said there is a sensor in the dash that might need replacing. Could this be it?

The tranny would make the speedometer flutter, not the other way around. The tranny has control over the speedometer.Does your tranny kind of wind out/revup and then shift hard?If it does it is the tranny.I have seen rebuilds, and used tranny as repairs and both have disappointing results/length of time issues.Replace is the best way to do it.Check your tranny fluid with the engine running after about 5 minutes and look for small metal pieces or anything other than fluid. If you see something that is not fluid, that's it.Wait another day or two and see if it keeps shifting hard, winding out.If it does not, just reply to this post and I will get an auto link and we'll dig deeper.
Good luck! Greg

Without knowing what the sensor is for,I can't say for sure if that is the fix. With the way stuff is crammed into cars these days though, getting into that dashboard isn't going to be fun.Since your description says both problems started at the same time,it is highly likely that the two are related. Are you still driving it or waiting to attempt to fix it before you drive it?Greg

Waiting to fix. It was diagnosed as a speed sensor failure. Thats what the computer said. I replaced the speed sensor above the diff and that wasnt it. I was told by a mechanic at the dealer that its more then likely the speed sensor attached to the tranny.

That is great news.No tranny.Although with all this dam technology, cars are becoming more of a burden it hope all this technology is more for saving engines and trannys than just giving optimum performance or in your case, making the speedometer work...properly.Take care.

2000 lincoln navigator will not start when I turn the key over but will start when I bump it at the solenod

If you are bypassing the solenoid when you "bump" it, the solenoid probably needs replacing.
If you are shorting to the small terminal and activating the solenoid, then the solenoid is OK and either the ignition switch or the wiring connecting the switch to the solenoid are faulty.

Does why does the overdrive light keep blinking on my 2000 four wheel drive lincoln navigator

when the overdrive light is blinking is that you have a transmission code you need a code reader to see what code it is if you don't feel a difference in the performance of the tranny it could be something simple.
