Question about 2001 Ford Taurus

Anti freeze keeps flowing over after the engine is shut down. i have replaced the resivour tank and thermostat. it does not happen all the time only occosinally. If i see it happen and restart the engine it will **** the antifreeze back in and will not overflow

If this is happening after driving the car for a while, it could be that the electric radiator fan is not working or possible somthing as simple as a bad radiator cap.

    Thanks i will check the fan tomorrow, the cap is new as i allready replaced the resivour(which came witha new cap) and the thermostate.

The whistling noise is steam. The problem is you never attacked the source of the problem. What you need to do now is drain your radiator completely at opening T-spicket at the bottom of the radiator. While you drain with engine off, run your water hose on top, to flush out the radiator. Then run to the Auto store and buy "radiator flush" -- follow directions. After flushing out the radiator flush, close the T-spicket, and fill with NEW anti-freeze. By enough to fill to the very top. Mix the anti-freeze with water per instructions to your environmental weather.
Buy a new radiator cap which could have caused the problem in the first place by not allowing the correct pressure to blow off. Being a 2000 car is a little early for radiator problems, but an incorrect anti-freeze solution causes radiators to fail prematurely.. Better to have more than less because anti-freeze keeps the radiator from corroding.
Your radiator never cooled the water sufficiently, and boiled much of the water out, hence it got so hot that it would melt the water tank. The Thermostat could well have been the cause because it got corroded from the inept ant-freeze mixture. Did you find rust on the Thermostat ? If so it was the case. If not the radiator has lost cooling either by low water or the cores have become plugged up, in that case you will need a new radiator. See if the flush loosens the rust within the cores before buying an expensive radiator. Check the water hoses if leaking cooling. Run the car allow the engine to become hot before accepting that your water hoses are fine. Because heat expand everything, and may not leak until after the expansion.

No more Heat!!


Look for an air block in the heater core, or a water valve in the heater hoses that may be closed. The normal way to purge air from the coolant system is to run the engine with heater on high heat, and with the radiator cap off, until the thermostat opens and the engine is at normal operating temperature. Then shut off engine, top up the radiator and overflow tank, and replace the radiator cap. If hot coolant is still not circulating through the heater core, you may have to get inventive and crack the outlet line loose to get flow started.

iT SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE GOT AN AIR LOCK ....yOU NEED TO EXPAND YOUR EXPANSION TANK WITH A LARGE FUNNEL.... THIS ALLOWS THE AIR TO PUSH THE WATER UP WITHOUT LOSING IT ALL OVER THE FLOOR.......THE CAR NEEDS TO RUN UP TO TEMP TO ALLOW THE THERMO TO OPEN....THIS WILL ALLOW THE AIR & WATER TO FLOW ALL THROUGH THE SYTEM UNTIL IT REACHES THE EXPANSION TANK................HOPE THIS HELPS......PAUL B.

1999 buick century..my temperature guage sometime goes in the red and then back 2 normal...once it does that it takes my car awhile 2 heat up

Replace the thermostat, it is defective...I would suggest flushing the cooling system with the heat set to high...Your engine requires Dex-Cool anti-freeze...It, due to electrolysis, has a tendency to "clump" blocking proper flow...Drain the cooling system...Fill with plain water...Allow engine to heat up and when the thermostat opens shut down and drain...Do this three times or until water is clear...Replace thermostat and refill with Dex-Cool...Allow all air to escape before installing cap...

Air flow will not get hot. Only warm, about 67 degrees is all. Have replaced thermostat. Fan motor operates fine, just temp sensor seems to have no effect.


Hello! The heater core is partially blocked...I would suggest flushing the cooling system with the temperature control on high...NOTE...The type of anti-freeze used in your vehicle is DexCool...If another type is used it may damage the cooling system...To flush...Drain radiator...Fill with plain water...Run engine until thermostat opens...Turn engine off...Let cool then drain...Do this at least three times or until water drains clear...Install new thermostat...Refill with 50/50 DexCool...Leave the radiator cap off as engine warms...Allow all air bubbles to escape...Then install cap...

The down side of DexCool is electrolysis...Electrical current flowing in the cooling system which can cause the anti-freeze to "clump" blocking its flow...Periodic flushing eliminates the problem...

Keeps blowing out coolant from over flow and fill tank


Could be as bad as the Head Gaskets, or as easy as needing to 'burp' the coolant system. Was the cooling system touched recently? Such as replacing thermostat or anti-freeze/coolant? If so, the system probably needs to have all trapped air removed - called burping.

If there's any oily residue in the coolant or over flow tank, than the head gaskets are most likely bad. Call your mechanic.

The car keeps over heating and there is a crack peace


Engine overheating and coolant leaking...I would say there is a 99.999% chance the head is cracked. What most likely happened is the thermostat froze shut so the pressure built up so much that the head cracked.

You are going to have to replace the head, head gasket and thermostat. I recommend taking your car to a shop to have this done.

What is the hose for that comes out from the top of the radiator for and where does it go connected


This hose connects the engine to the radiator. Coolant flows thru the thermostat located where the hose attaches to the engine into the radiator to cool it.

Dodge stratus R/T 2002 antifreeze problem(antifreeze coming out the cap)


First the "service engine soon" light is a manufacturer installed reminder for you to get an oil change or other pre-determined maintenance service done. It is different than the "check engine" light which indicates a sensor malfunction. Secondly, when the engine is cold the thermostat is closed and the antifreeze or coolant is not circulating. The cooling system is a closed system and the tank that the cap is on is not an overflow tank but rather an expansion tank. This tank allows for the expanding coolant that is now hot to leave the engine coolant jackets, that won't expand, into a tank that can expand slightly. When your engine got to normal operating temp., aka.. hot, the thermostat opened allowing coolant to circulate and fill the expansion tank probably over flowing with the cap off. This is a normal operation for your car.
