Why bmw x5 battery drain fan not working exhaust blowing out white smoke... what may be happening.

White smoke out of the exhaust indicates moisture (water) in the exhaust. If the car is not driven very far each day, some moisture will collect in the muffler and cause white smoke for a short while after starting. If the smoke is continual, however, you need to watch you coolant level as you may have a blown head gasket.

White smoke out of exhaust

Regarding 2001 audi a6 quattro 2.7t....i was driving to work the car was fine then white smoke starting coming from under the hood and tail pipe. i stopped veilce and alot of oil was dripping from front of car. I towed it home and i looked under the hood and there was oil from valve cover gasket. i let the car sit for a few days, had it running again for a good hour and no white smoke was coming out. I removed the valve cover and gaskets are all bad. i want to know can the valve cover gasket leak cause the white smoke to come from exhaust pipe?

My 325i is smoking alot

Depending on what color it is, you could have to much fuel, or a coolant leak, or oil in your engine.

Blue typically means Oil
White usually means coolant
black smoke usuall means fuel.

Check out this website for a good reference to it:

I just bought a 1986 BMW 325 that starts fine when cold. When the engine is hot and I try to start it puts out black smoke and idles rough and dies. Where do I start to look to fix this?

Coolant temperture sensor. Look at the front of the cylinder head. There will be a square 3 pin connector. This should be the one you need to replace. What happens is that it is stuck telling the computer that the coolant is cold thus providing more fuel to start. Once the system is warm this excess fuel is not needed and can create the black (raw fuel) smoke that is coming from the tail pipe once warm. This is a very simple repair. Let me know if you need anything else.

I just purchased an 03 325i and when I got home the coolant light came on, so I topped off the tank and the light went off - for about an hour. I then topped it off again when the engine had cooled. When I...

Hopefully not. If your head gasket is gone , you would see an unusualy large amount of steam/smoke comming out of the exhaust. If you fill the tank when the engine is hot , it would not be suprising to find the tank empty after the car has cooled off. The liquid expands as the engine heats up. Hopefully the problem rectify's itself. If you bought it from a car lot , go back to them. If you bought it privately , it's your problem now. It is possible that there is a thermostat issue and the coolant is boiling away. Most modern cars do put quite a bit of moisture out the tailpipe.

Gas pouring from tailpipe

Make sure you use OEM Injectors. The white smoke might come at a 3.5 from a bad gasket bewteen the intake manifold and the throttle boy or if you have the 3.8 from bad gaskets between the intake manifold and the engine.

2005 325i with a lot of white smoke coming from the tailpipe.

Yes, the best way to determine if you've blown a head gasket, it to use the diagnos # 4 gas analyser or smog test analyser- (the tube that goes up the tail pipe), place the wand near the radiator. if the wand reads finds CO in the cooling system ,100% blown head gasket

325i BMW emitting white smoke

You are smelling burning antifreeze. likely a head gasket but only testing will determine that for sure...Do not drive it. get it to a shop or more damage is likely.

Overheated engine

Hi i would say have ago at rebuilding this yourself, Get a Haynes Manual for the car and that will tell you everything you need to know, The hardest part for you would be getting the timing correct and tightening the head bolts correctly (all in the manual tho) Look at it this way if it all goes wrong you wanted to get a second hand engine anyway, and you will learn alot in the process, Dont forget if you need any help along the way people are here to help, Good luck if you go for it, Steve
