Hello, this do it yourself project is very manageable if it is brake pads that you are replacing on your car; if they are disc shoes it may be a little bit harder. In essence a brake job can be done straight out of a auto manual for your car and is not to diffucult as long as you follow good safety procedures while jacking up your vehicle and removing your wheels. First, I would park your car and setting your parking break will make your rear brakes impossible to get off so do not set it. I would however keep this in mind and be very careful working on your car then. I would chaulk your front wheel with a chaulk block or a brick. I would loosen your lug nuts just to break the intial torque I would then jack up the rear of your vehicle and set jack stands under your car in the proper locations. Then systematically, remover your wheel and then the two bolts holding your caliper to the spindle. Carefully, remove the caliper and do not let it hang becuase you will bend your brake line. Remove old shoes, then compress the caliper with a caliper compression tool from your local auto parts store or a c-clamp and a small block of wood. Inspect the rotor for deep gouges, a blue tint, or if you know you have gotten them really hot before I would replace the rotor. Next, install the new brake pads, put rotor back onto spindle and insert bolts back into caliper housing. Repeat for the next side and put the wheel back on and remember to torque your lug nuts to the proper specification. I hope this fixes your problem for you!

Per Chilton Auto repair manual:

Removal & Installation

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the rear wheel.
  3. Siphon a small amount of brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir.
  4. Insert a small prybar through the caliper opening and pry the caliper cover (using the outboard brake pad) to bottom the piston in the caliper bore.
  5. Remove the caliper slide bolts.
  6. Remove the caliper from the anchor.

    WARNING Support the brake caliper with mechanics wire. Do not let the caliper hang by the brake hose.
  7. Remove the brake pads from the caliper.
To install:
  1. Install the brake pads onto the caliper.
  2. Lubricate the slide pin bolts with grease provided with the brake pads, or suitable silicon grease equivalent.
  3. Install the caliper on the anchor and tighten the slide pin bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  4. Install the rear wheel.
  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6. Pump the brake pedal several times until a firm pedal is obtained in order to properly seat the pads.
  7. Refill the brake fluid reservoir to the proper level.

Remove the tires, Remove the calaper bolts, (small heads on them 12mm or so) Remove calaper, Pads are setting in a holder. Lube new pads with litheum grease and place in holder. (look at old pads, one or both may have small metel tab on one end) If the new pads have the tab, put that pad where the old pad with the tab was. (ie. tab to the inside) Press pistion in with a 'C' clamp. If it won't go in easly, it may screw in. If the parking brake cable is hooked to the calaper, it probly screws in. Use large pliers to screw in calaper piston. Place calaper over pads and install bolts (lube bolts) Rember to pump brakes befor driving . to get a solid peddle.

DIYer? There is probably a "reset" in the computer system when pads are changed. It may be an MB trade secret for the prevention of liability issues.

How to remove rear axle from 2004 ba ford falcon


Hi there.
Well first jack up the rear end of car then block up the front wheels (front and rear) and put stands under the rear jacking points STILL keeping the pressure on the jack, clamp the rear brake pipe that comes from the body to the rear axle and clamp with a small clamp
but dont tighten to tight remove the flex pipe and also the rear shockers from the axle ,then the spring u bolts and then the hand brake cable from the center adjuster,now it should only leave your tail shaft 4 nuts/bolts.
But why are you removing the rear/axle????

cheak battry power, check brake switch, check wiring for short circuits, check for water within the lamp housing, check if connections are tight

I have a F150 p/u 2000 for 10yrs. Each year I change the brake pads. But the rear pads still looks like new. The front pads are worn down. What can be causing the problem?


normally, you replace the rear brake pads every other change in the front brake pads. for your case, it seems that the front brakes are the only ones working.

bleed your brakes to check if rear brakes are still working. after bleeding, check your brake master if it puts pressure equally to the 4 brakes.

Issue:
On some 2003 MY-on S-TYPE vehicles, a customer may report a concern of premature
parking brake pad wear or the brakes binding. This condition can result if the electronic
park brake (EPB) system is not re-calibrated after the removal of the rear brake callipers
to replace the brake pads.
Action:
Should a customer express concern regarding the above, refer to the calibration
procedure detailed in this bulletin.

1. Reset the EB module:
a. Switch off the ignition.
b. Disconnect the battery for 30 seconds. For additional information, refer to STYPE
Workshop Manual Section 414-01.
c. Reconnect the battery.
2. Start the engine.
3. Firmly apply and release the foot brake five times.
4. Confirm that the message NOT CALIBRATED" or APPLY FOOT AND PARK
BRAKE" is displayed on the instrument cluster message center. This indicates that
the parking brake is in calibration mode.
5. Lightly press the foot brake pedal.
6. Apply the parking brake by using the EB switch.
7. Release the parking brake.
8. Release the foot brake.
9. Confirm that the brake warning lamp is no longer illuminated on the instrument
pack and that the NOT CALIBRATED" message is no longer displayed in the
message center.
10. Apply and release the EPB five times to ensure no error is present.

After replacing front pads and rear shoes on my 2006 Nissan Sentra I still hear what sounds like worn shoes, or pads dragging when I come to a stop. Neither the pads or shoes were worn to that point when...


to my knowledge , some brake pads have metal compounds , and some are aspestos , i once used metal type on my falcon years ago and found when they got hot it was like an MTT bus braking . these type were used on taxi's for longer endurance but made noise when hot , despite being fitted correctly .

sometimes if you have touched face of pads with your hands this will also cause this noise , if so remove and lightly rub with sand paper to remove any foriegn matter and replace carefully , also brake fluid from bleeding afterwards could cause this also , did you notice if there were any little plates behind brake pads , these little flat dust plates or anti vibration plates that are behind pads some times work better with a little silicon between them and the pads , this helps a little.

also on some models i have found the rear caliper has to be screwed in and pressed also , some hand brake systems require this to un adjust the hand brake system when replacing pads .
inside the piston of the rear caliper will have a cross shape if so ! be care full if so , as one is right hand thread and one is left , if they a screwed the wrong way the piston is very hard to re-align the thread again without the chance of cross threading ..

Ford falcon EB won't start there power but when turning the key just won't start


might be a fuel problem when you turn ignition on you should hear a buzzing noise from rear thats the fuel pump, if you dont hear it your fuel pump isnt working.

YOU carnt have a transmission oil leak from the front axle on a Falcon as they are Rear wheel drive but could be the hose going to the radiator over the front end leaking But the rear end of G/Box should be only the OIL SEAL.

We are changing the rear brake pads on a 1998 ford falcon I want to know do the calipers move if so how do they move to put pads in


most falcon rear disc calipers require a special tool that fits into the piston then a 1/2 inch drive ratchet used to spin the piston while pushing in . You should be able to uy this from most auto parts outlets.

Ford Expedition rear brake brake replacement


The rear pads are usualy harder than the front and the harder the pads the more wear there is on the rotors Unless the rotors were worn to the point of replacement they could have had them skimmed.Being soft doesnt make much sense.Have an 03 ba falcon and only replaced our rotors after doing 125000ks The expidition is a similar beast that used the same brake system.Get the rotors skimmed and go to a slightly softer pad to extend rotor life
