Basically there is a communication error between the anti-theft computer and the main vehicle computer

the solution will require an professional automotive scanner or dealer scan tool to figure out which module has failed or further diagnoses to determine which circuits need to be repaired

yes... buy/borrow a professional scan tool to verify communication with each computer on the vehicle

then follow the diagnostic procedures for determining weather the concern is a computer failure or circuit failure

additionally, or should I say FIRST, check all the fuses
a failed fuse will cause a dead computer which will cause no communication and the inability to program keys

    finally harwinder1
could you ID the "expert" in question when making your post
since you have asked of additional assistance there will be multiple "experts" posting here and I will not be able to identify which posts are directed to me

    and lastly...
since this is an auction vehicle check all the harnesses and look for some obvious signs of damage, disconnected connectors or loose grounds!

    Sir,

I checked all fuses. Only high low beam fuses are not OK, all other fuses are OK under the Dash and under the steering coulmn. I can use my friend's SNAP-oN scanner. Is their need to be all the fuses OK.

    Thanks,

    Singh

This is more than likely not a key issue. if the original key is a grey color, it means that this jeep utilizes something called a SKIS module. if the battery was disconnected, or died at the auction, this security module will disable the vehicle. it will start, run for 5 seconds, then shut off, with the security light illuminated. unfortunately, you need the dealer scan tool to re initialize this system. your locksmith programmer will also be locked out. unfortunately, this one is going to need to be towed to the dealer! sorry for the bad news, and good luck.

i am sorry you do not like my correct answer. if you need me to clarify anything please do not hesitate to ask. the reason the answer is "go to the dealer" is because this is proprietary programming, and this is certainly not the first one i have seen. you need the chrysler / mopar DRB scanner, it is the ONLY ONE that will reprogram this. this is just simply not a locksmith issue, unfortunately. good luck.

  • Geoff Walton Aug 26, 2010

the only thing scanning with the snap on will do for you is confirm that the ECU is actually communicating. you can try scanning the IPM module to confirm that there are no other related codes, but aside from that the only fix is to have the dealer hook up their DRBII scantool and unlocking the SKIS module. this is just simply not a driveability issue, and it is certainly not uncommon.

my only other though on this is make sure there are no aftermarket alarms or remote starters that may be interfering with the system.

  • harwinder1 Aug 26, 2010

    Sorry Sir,

I got you, actually it is the story of a new Locksmith and Prestige issue too. Could you please tell me that Can I buy this DRB scanner, if yes , how much is the cost.

    Thanks very much.

  • Geoff Walton Aug 26, 2010

as far as i know, the DRB scantool is not available to the public. you could inquire by speaking to the service manager at your local dealership. i do not believe it is an expensive procedure to have performed though. my best guess at what the scantool would be worth would be over $10000, plus subscription fees! you are gonna need to fix alot of jeeps to make that purchase profitable! my shop is a very well equipped one, but there is just no way that would ever be a feesable purchase.

if my answer turned out to be the correct one, i would greatly appreciate a 4 thumbs up for a knowledgeable answer!

The PCM was replaced and after the replacement, the owner could not program the powertrain control module because they did not have a DRB scanner. They also did not have the secret key, therefor were unable to program the ignition key to the sentry key immobileizer module. In short, this guy should have tried to start the car before purchasing.

I have all the procedures right in front of me. what needs to be understood is the PCM is shot, and needs to be replaced with a known good PCM.

I have misplaced all if my keys for my 2000 Jeep grand Cherokee Laredo.... how do I go about having new ones made?

The easiest way is to go to your Jeep dealer and give them your VIN number. Based off this Vin number they can give you a key code that you ca take to a locksmith and they can cut you a new key. That would be the cheapest process. The other way is to call a locksmith to come to where your vehicle is located and have the process done. But, this method will cost you a lot more money. It just comes down to convenience and how much money do you want to spend. Hope this helps you.
