Question about 1986 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Open Question

My 1986 monte carlo ss has, what i think to be a short. i just dont know where. the horn, power locks, car lighter and radio all go out when the fuse blows.(20amp) at first i thought it was the radio.we had a aftermarket sont installed back in the 90's and its worked fine until the the fuse started blowing. so i completely took out the radio, and still the fuse blew. i unplugged the horn while the radio was out and it still blew. same with the power locks and cigarette lighter. i am absolutely lost and dont know what is shorting the fuse.

SOURCE: tripping fuses

I have a 88 monte carlo with the same problem. try taking the cigerette lighter out of that dash that should do it. the lighters have been known to cause electrical shorts when they go bad. just try that and if that doesnt work i realy dont know. try checking ground cables and othe wires.

Dash lights, lighter, & rear defroster wont work on my 2002 monte carlo ss

Have you checked your fuses? You could have an electrical issue also. If the fuses are good, you need to check your wiring harness for these parts.

Can i change the front end on my 86 monte carlo ls to a ss???

I can't see it being a problem. SS was basically just an option on a platform for all Monte Carlos.Everything from an SS should bolt on or in, depending on how far you go with it. Hope this helps.

I looked and neither the hazard or turn flasher is on the fuse panel...where else can I look??

If I'm not mistaken its just before the horn fuse and radio fuse. Just in case, look for the word accessories or access ( where the fuses actually go).
