Question about Saturn L-Series

1 Answer

On a 2002 saturn l200 with an abs system, do i need to use a scan tool to return the rear displacement cylinder pistons to the home position or the upmost position, the manual i have says it will run them to the top of their travel. I have replaced the master clyinder and front calipers. On the first pump the pedal goes to the floor, then after the second or third pump i get pressure to my pedal. we have bleed the system with a pressure machine and there is no air or leaks are these rear displacement cylinders my problem? Everyone i talk to has never heard of them.

I am replacing the rear brake pads on a 2002 Saturn L200. I was told that I will need to disconnect the brake lines . Is this true?

NO!! You do not need to disconnect the brake lines. If these are reard disc brakes, the only thing special is the use of a tool that will push and turn the piston in. You CAN NOT just push it in. You WILL damage the piston, caliper and the parking brake! Email me at iambanshee74@yahoo.com and I will send you the entire replace ment procedure. Fortunately, it is pretty easy and do not be intimadated by it.

THE DEALERSHIP OR GARAGE WILL HAVE TO PRESSURE BLEED AND USE TECH 1 SCAN TOOL.IF YOU HAD THE OLD SCHOOL NON ABS BRAKE SYSTEM YOU CAN MANUAL BLEED BRAKE SYSTEM WITH NO PROBLEMS.

How to replace rear pads on 2002 saturn

You will need to unbolt the caliper, usally 2 bolts, take the caliper off the rotor, remove the pads. You will need a larger c-clamp or a caliper piston tool to compress the piston, if there are two indentations in the face of the cylinder piston, you will need a brake tool to turn the piston, clockwise a few times press in the piston and repeat until the piston is completely back into the caliper. Install the new pads and put the caliper back on. Make sure you pump up your brake peddle a few times after the job, before you take off.

Most likely the master cylinder.
The internal spring is not returning the piston back to the "release" position.
If you had it serviced, then the pushroh between the booster and master cylinder may be too long, so that the piston in the master cylinder can't fully go back. Leakage in the master cylinder piston overnight will bring it to rest.

Unplug the ABS module ... if brakes continue to seize, then it is the master cylinder. If not ...

Hope this helps!

The speaker should be removed from the trunk. You shouldn't have to remove it from the back seat. There is probably just a couple of clips or screws that hold them in
