Question about 1997 Plymouth Grand Voyager

1 Answer

1998 Grand Voyager. Left interior lights on and drained battery. Jump started and ran fine for a 2 weeks after. Now having problems starting. Rapid ticking/clicking noise when ignition switch turned. Van will start occasionally if i hold switch on till it starts to rev. Other times nothing happens. Very inconsistent. Could problem be the starter or is it because the battery has crapped out? Oh yeah, also, once started can smell gas as if flooded. All this done without pressing gas peddle.????

It will drain at a rate of 21Watts X 2 = 42Watts at 12Volts = 3.5Amps. If you have an 70 Ah battery that is 20hours to totally flat from fully charged.

Lights on a/c flash on and off this started when i couldnt get it to start got a jump then the security was acting goofy had to put security key in to start it and now a/c dash lights flash

1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager-similar happen to me when my battery was very low. I replaced the battery, then rear wiper control lights flashed, a/c control lights flashed.
HVAC controls need to be recalibrated, this is a factory test that involves pressing these control buttons in a certain sequence, which may take a couple minutes to complete. I'm sorry I don't have the written steps to share, but I hope this leads you to a solution.

Alarm is going off and the Plymouth Grand Voyager won't start.

Try using your key (after reconnecting battery) on the drivers door, to lock, and unlock it. There are so many different vehicles with different methods, you may have to call dealer service dept, with your VIN # and name, and they should be able to give correct procedure to disarm security system. Check owners manual as well.

The relay switch is ticking on a 97 plymouth voyager se 3.0 6 cylinder and the van now does not start

Hi TC,

Rapid clicking of the Starter Relay (Solenoid) is indicative of a low battery state.

If getting a jump starts the engine, that would confirm this.

The question is how did the battery get that way?
Possibilities include:
  • Bad battery
  • Bad alternator
  • One shot mistake (eg left lights on)
If itr isn't number three, once it's started, drive to an auto parts or battery store that will do free testing. Ask for a 'Load Test'. This simulates the drain but on the battery while starting the engine. The test is Pass/Fail and takes less than a minute.

If it fails, replace it. If it passes, price an alternator.

Hope you find this to be very helpful in not getting stranded.

Best regards,
Mike

Van wont start

I had a similiar problem recently. The car would not start and no sign of life no lights etc. I jump started it acouple of times but then even this did not work. It would jump start but right after the cables are disconnected it would stop. We checked the battery it was good. Turned out it was the alternator. It was not working properley so the system was not charging itself or even when it starts was not generating enough energy to keep it going. Changed the alternator, never had the same problem again. You can have your battery and alternator checked at an autozone shop for free.
