Question about Geo Metro

1 Answer

93 geo metro 3 cyl 5 speed standard will not start! No starter noise, the battery is full and there is a clicking coming from the major fuse box under the hood. Sometimes the clutch will not let the car start so we are thinking that the clutch safety switch is stuck. Where is this switch located? Please help asap

Adjustment procedure from indicates iswitch is just in front of the pedal arm under dash. Recommend you pull the connector and place a shorting wire between the terminals in the connector to see if the car will start.

  1. Apply the parking brake firmly and place the gear shift lever in N position.
  2. Disconnect the lead wire at the switch.
  3. Loosen the locknut and screw the switch out.
  4. Depress clutch pedal all the way to the floor and then return it back 0.4-1.1 in. along its travel from the floor.
  5. Connect an ohmmeter to the switch and slowly screw the switch in until the switch is ON . Hold the switch at this position and tighten the locknut to 8-11 ft. lbs. (10-15 Nm).
  6. Connect the lead wire.

I have a 1996 Geo Metro LSI car won't start, no clicking noise but lights come on

  • sure it won't crank the engine , starter motor just clicks !
  • try using jumper cables, and crank, off a running car.?
  • Fuses all good.? test them?
  • battery terminals clean, never green?
  • A/T transmission? did you wiggle shifter, as you crank it.?
  • a/T trans, did you try starting in neutral?
  • M/T trans did you press clutch pedal harder as you cranked it over? (repeat say 3 times, see if this makes it crank)
  • try a good battery from a good car? in your car.
  • charge your battery. using a battery charger..
  • Does hot wiring the starter solenoid , make it crank over?

Geo jerking under acceleration

They come with a 3 or 4 cyl engine, but either way it would not take much to make it run rough.
Usually a miss-fire under load is ignition related.
Have you checked or replaced the plugs, cap, rotor, and wires ?
If not I would start with an inspection of that first.

Battery drain

Have you tried removing various fuses?? That will give you an indication of where the trouble lies, there should be a drawing of what the fuse protects when you find the offending cicuit which should help iscolate the offending component. I bet you find it`s something that someone has added eg reversing sensors, Aircon clutch is a common culprit. Good luck, Ian

93 Geo Metro

As long as they are the same type of engine ( I believe they should both be 1.0L 3 cyl engines). Most parts for the Geo Metro from 1992 to 1994 interchange with out a problem.
