Remove the rear lenses and inspect the operation of the rear lights. Replace as necessary. If the incorrect bulbs where used, it could potentially cause an electrical feedback issue. Has there been any tampering of the electrical system, say a new radio/entertainment system? An improper install could cause this issue as well. What happened prior to this problem occuring?

How to find an electrical disturbance in 1998 ford expedition

Normally this condition is the result of a poor body ground connection. Testing for this can be deceiving. At the static(nothing on) condition, testing can show a good ground. However when a circuit is excited, it has a determined resistance and a set current flow. If the ground connection to this or a branch circuit is loose, corroded, or broken wire. This will allow just enough connection to show as being good, but not good enough to complete the circuit with the required amount of connection when energized.

2002 hyundai santa fe not starting. my wifes car

Sounds like the alt is at times not recharging the battery. Check to make sure the alt connections are all tight. Make sure your battery terminals are clean and tight. Some times when an alt has a lot of miles, the brush springs get weak and at times will not make connection and thus not charge. Test the system when the lights come on to make sure that the alt is putting out.

My 2002 Jeep Liberty reverse lights are not working,I put in new fuses and bulbs, what could be the problem?

Remove console shifter housing check connectors for good clean connection...If all are clean and connected apply emergency brake start vehicle and put in reverse...with voltmeter or a good test light check wiring at reverse light switch for power and or voltage...normally they will wear loose from normal shifting but if no power replace switch....If it seems like too much work involved you have to take to dealer where they will scan it and find it instantly....it could just be a bad ground at connection.

2003 Mitsubishi Galant electrical problem: When you step on the brake pedal of the vehicle, the parking lights come on with the braking lights. When you have the headlight switch on the ON position all...

Check to make sure your body grounds are good at all points. Particularly from the battery to the body. If ground is good to the engine for starting it, and it runs, but the ground wire from battery to body is disconnected or dirty/corroded, then that would be your problem. There's not much as far as ground between motor and body because of rubber engine and transmission mounts. Try a jumper cable from ground to body at the clean metal of maybe the bumper. Unless of course the bumper is rubber. But test this with a jumper ground to body.

2002 Escalade, headlights don't work, all other lights do? No brights or dims, fuses all seem to be ok, what would be the next item to check? I have been told the headlight switch but not sure how I would...

Make sure the TBC fuse is good in the fuse box under the hood. There is also a Headlamp relay, and fuses marked LT HDLP, and RT HDLP, If the RT HDLP and LT HDLP fuses have power, the headlight switch is good. Be sure battery power is present on both sides on these 3 fuses. If you ground the PURPLE or YELLOW wires at the bulbs, they should light. If they do, the one thing that the high and low beams have in common is the hi-low beam switch and the ground for the switch. The ground ends up at the lower left corner of the dash, under the windshield. The relay is a common relay and you will be able to find another one in the fuse box to swap for testing purposes.

Trailer brakes

Take a 12 volt test light... the kind that has a spring loaded clip to hold the probe into the wire, and insert it into the wire just before the trailer plug, vehicle side. (Blue I think) If there is a connection, the brake should see it and you should have an indicator light. When you activate the brake the test light should lite up. If not, move up to the brake actuator and test the blue wire. If there is nothing at the actuator, check the black wire. It is power to the controller. If no power there, check fuses again. If it does pick it up at the plug, connect the trailer and test the trailer itself. First ground to the trailer and then to the truck. Most problems are ground wire related. Then move to the axle and test it there. For the brakes to work, and even show on the indicator, there has to be a ground and power to the brakes themselves. There are 2 wires to each brake... a ground and a power. Test across both wires to make sure you have power and ground. You can also hook another trailer to your truck or another truck to your trailer. Lights can work through trailer ball ground. Brakes can't. leave the trailer unhooked from the trailer and hook the wiring up and test the lights. That usually will indicate a good or faulty ground. Also make sure there is a GOOD ground to the truck frame/body. Also try http://www.etrailer.com/faq-wiring.aspx. They have a great website with lots of info. Hope this helps. Mike

Brake lights out

U will need either a small DC volt meter or a 12 volt test light, the test light is the best choice and is avail at any auto parts store for about $5, the brake switch is located at the top of the arm the brake pedal is attached to, find a good ground for the test light ( un painted body sheet metal or a dash brace) and then touch the 2 terminals of the switch, the test light will light at one terminal, then press the brake pedal, the test light should light at both terminals, if it doesn't light then u need either a new switch or to repair the wiring at the switch, if no light at either terminal you have a power supply issue to the brake switch and it will need to go to a shop for diagnosis of the problem

2000 olds sillouette, headlights on, no brake/turn signal light

i would chk. break light switch. should be under dash above break pedel arm. emergency flashers will be on its own fuse, turn signals should have own fuse. as far as interior lights surging that could be ground or alt. chk. battery cables make sure clean and tight. not good idea unhooking bat. cable when running, one spark or surge to computer could burn up computer. besides that realy won't tell you anything if a diod is bad in alt. it may not show up until you tax the system. its best to take it someware like autozone, or any major auto parts store and have it chk.
