Question about 1996 Audi A4

1 Answer

I drove the car in to Costco to get tires. Everything worked just fine. The week before I had the timing and serpentine belt changed. However, when we went to pick up the car, the man at Costco Tire said they had a hard time getting it in to the shop. They went ahead and put tires on it anyway. Ugh... Since then, the only way I could drive it was to put it in 2nd and get up to 25 miles an hour and then shift the car into drive. It just seems odd that it happened all of a sudden like that. Everyone says I need a new transmission. I've been driving the car like this for 3 years now. Wouldn't it have died by now if it needed a new transmission. Please help. Plus...I really don't understand what the Tiptronic is.

Is the car running rough? I'm wondering if they didn't get the timing belt on exactly right. Is it a lack of power you're describing? What happens if try to take off in drive?

The simplest way to diagnose this problem is to take it to a dealer and get it on the diagnostic computer,(they dont have to do the work)the tiptronic gearbox is a computer controlled gearbox(auto mode)with a manual overide.i could give you lots of answers but once diagnosed properly its cheaper than guessing.

My audi a5 wont run it starts and cuts out since i fitted a new serpentine belt

How long does it run? Sure you only changed the serpentine belt? The car would actual even run without the serpentine (or also called accessory belt) since the belt only drives fairly non essential components (AC compressor, alternator, fan, power steering pump. etc).

I have a 2003 Ford Focus ZX5 and have had a great deal of work done in the last 3 weeks. I have new spark plugs, wires, gasket cover, oil change and the motor mounts replaced. After picking up my car...

It depends if the Serpentine Belt is worn or not, i.e. cracked, glazed, dryed out. If it is good and the belt is still squealing than it may be a bad Belt Tensioner, which is not keeping the belt properly tensioned. (Loose Belt) Replacing the Belt will not solve the problem of the car running hot. You will need to fix the Electric Fan that is not working, because if you keep on running the car hot all the time you may blow the Head gasket to your engine which will cost you about $800-1100 dollars to repair.

Serpentine belt slipped off due to anti-freeze.

Probably wet electrical components. Use an air hose to blow everything off , and let it dry good before you try it. Or, the mass air flow sensor could be dead.

My 1997 chevrolet malibu's belt is loose and keeps coming apart. Do I need a new one? I have a 6 cyld, 4 door, automatic. I drove it this morning and everything was fine until my steering wheel locked up...

I assume you mean your serpentine belt. Change the belt, and while you are at it, make sure the adjuster screw is working correctly as they tend to gum up & give one the false impression that you have the belt all the way tight when it isn't.

2002 Timing Belt Change

The timing chain on the H6 does not need to be replaced. We ran into a vapor lock (can you believe it!) situation a couple of weeks ago and I did some reading. In the maintenance booklet for our 3.0H6 states that the camshaft drive belt (timing belt) on the 2.5 ltr 4 cyl. needs to be inspected and replaced. On the 3.0ltr engine there is a footnote that states "Periodic inspection and replacement of the camshaft drive chains on the 3.0 Liter models are not required."
Hope that helps.
