Question about Chevrolet Equinox

1 Answer

Hi ! I have a 2006 Chevy Equinox, I lose power to trans untill the truck barely wants to move after 2bks or so. p0700 / p0705 are the codes that have come up. We replaced the tcm (p0700). p0705 comes up still..(trans range). I was told that the chevy dealer are the only ones that can reprogram everything ? Should I try that first before I replace p0705 ? What steps should I take after replacing them type of parts?

Since this vehicle does have a possible reprogramming issue, before I spent any money on parts, let them hook their scanner(in this case it going to be the tech 2 with downloadable info from a mainframe to reprogram) and see if there are any other under lying codes or info. What this means is that they have the ability to read and interpret live data to pin point the issue. the code may be merely a reference point. There may also be a TSB regarding this issue. Start at the dealer, then work on replacement of parts. Always start with information first. Sometimes we are suprised by what we find. Let me know what they say and if you need anything else.

Hi Darla, your best bet is to go the dealer and get it checked up before it fails totaly. It has a fail safe for when the engine is sick it goes into 'limp home' mode. Hope that helps. Greg.

2006 Dodge Stratus, wouldn't shift had to drive home extremely slow, check engine light came on and checked codes got P0700

First p0700 is only a generic information code. If you haven't received another code you probably have one pending, have it scanned again. I would start by checking trans fluid level. I believe with the stratus you check you transmission with the car in neutral, at operating temp and on flat level ground with wheel chocks to make sure car doesn't move. fluid should be a nice red color and clean. If orange its probably burnt or in need of service, if black probably needs repairs. If that looks good depending on your code I would say a trans shift solenoid went bad. Keep me updated with that other code.

I just want to find an accurate and complete list of codes for my 98 Cherokee Classic 4.0 liter 2wd. Just installed ScanGuageII reader and get codes P0700, P0705, P0463. Only P0463 is in the Chilton manual...

Hi, you can see a full list of Jeep DTCs here:
Your engine light will probably return immediately after clearing the codes until the P0700 is rectified. The 705 indicates your range sensor is out of adjustment or broken. The range sensor is mounted to the side of the transmission where the cable attaches. It may be adjustable. Normally, when the range sensor fails, the starter will not turn, because the sensor provides the park/neutral safety interlock to ensure the transmission is not in gear. Also, the range sensor usually includes the backup light switch. I usually adjust the sensor by putting the transmission in reverse, turning the key on, loosening the switch, and rotating it until the backup lights come on. Please let me know if you have questions and thanks for using FixYa.

Have a reading of p0700 and p0705. also. driver

a p700 code is a general trans code you need an DRBIII scanner to read the code to narrow it down, there are plenty of write up on cleaning up your netural safty switch which is usually the cause of the reverse light problem so you may want to give that a shot, hope this helps.the 705 code usually leads to a faulity netrual safty switch
