1990 honda civic no start. Manual trans. Car will not crank but will run when push started, what are the common problems with this car?

  • Anonymous Aug 25, 2010

I get the click from the main relay but no clicks from the starter. When i turn the key I get power and all the lights turn on, the check engine light goes back off after a few seconds but when turning to the start position, nothing, like if you were to not press the clutch

i used to work at auto parts stores and if the starter gets tested, the solenoid is included in that test so it wont test good if thats a problem

starter doesnt do anything like its not even getting a signal. I was thinking starter or the clutch switch

  • Anonymous Aug 25, 2010

so you turn the key and what.....?any clicks???

  • Anonymous Aug 25, 2010

you need to take the starter out of the car and get it tested if starter okay replace the starter solenoid.

  • Anonymous Aug 26, 2010

another item that may be gone is the battery, may not be in a good enough state to take the load for the starter.worth checking first...before removing starter.

1990 Honda Civic,Car wont start after its been running for awhile, then it starts after it cools down

Hello,

You have a common problem; back in the early 90, the distribtors assemebly was causing alot of shut down problems for Hondas, the pickup assembly inside the distibutor would become hot and stop producing sparks/ engey to the sparks plugs. When cars came into the shop we would most of the time just replace the distributor assembly, but they can be kind of expensive thought, if you live near a salvage year it may be your best option for getting a good used one.

I hope this helps.

1990 crx base model honda civic want start

I would suggest an ignition module. If it is a rough idle at startup I would check the throttle position sensor. You can check that by starting the car and unplugging the TPS. If the car runs differently then chances are it is working fine.
