Question about 2003 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

1 Answer

My 2003 TrailBlazer has a foul smell from the air system. What could be causing this smell? It's a sour smell not a dead animal smell. Is there a cabin air filter? I've read several posts and some say there is and some say there isn't.

You can buy a deoderiser that kills all known airborn nasties, you spray it into the air inlet of any aircon unit, the only smell that it will NOT get rid of is cigarette smoke.that sticks to the filter/condenser and all the vents...nasty.

My 2007 hyundai azera has a dead animal smell i changed the cabin filter and it still stinks

If you described the smell as old socks it could be sick car syndrome.
Bacteria grows like crazy in the damp environment of the air-con evaporator that is buried in the heating and ventilation system, particularly in the damp days of autumn and early winter.

Products are available to treat the problem though they aren't cheap. Ask for details at any good car accessory shop or air-con specialist.

Tighten gas cap comes on when heat or air is on then car will go dead on a 2004 Chevy trailblazer

fuel cap needs the fuel tank evap system to be working

try replacing fuel cap
if no better will have to chase the foul up in the system

wont get fuel to the injectors if tank isnt breathing

2003 Hyundai Santa Fe was driving down the highway vehicle started losing power but was still started. I pulled over it smelled like gas so I shut the engine off. Vehicle would never restart.

Not enough information.
Normally the first things one thinks of is clogged fuel filter, failed purge valve causing too much tank vacuum, water in the gas, or even PVC foam coating the air mass sensor.
But none of those things causes a gas smell.
I would then think of a leaking hose connection, bad plug wire, weak spark, etc.
However, we would need to see or smell where the gas odor was coming from?
A leak is extremely serious because it could cause a fire, but very easy to see and fix.
An ignition problem would be harder to see and would require looking for fouled plug that was not firing well.
So you need to open the hood and tell us more.

With the a/c on in fresh mode, there's a musky, moldy smell but in circulate, there's no smell - where could water be ponding and where are the a/c filters if there any?

On top of the intake for the air, you most likely have some kind of dead animal. Rat,etc....A lot of the air intakes for the air in the car are up by the windshield. Remove the paneling under the windshield wipers and look for a filter or the dead animal might be right there. Mike.

09 sonata with 1000mils on it with a/c off foul smell comes from ventilation system with fan on. no problem when a/c is on

Does it smell like a dead animal? or just moldy mildew smell? If dead animal, get it out. If mold/mildew smell, treat it with an AC ventilation dodorizer.

My girlfriend has a 2004 Vibe AWD Recently we have noticed a smell coming from the vents like an aniaml got in the air system. However i cannot find the cabon filter "if it exsists" My 2008 vue has one....

The cabin air filter is behind the glove box usually. If you live some where that there is a lot of small ground animals, like in CA, we have damn ground squirrels. Check under the main air filter in the motor bay too, I found a dead mouse in one so I would check both.

Auto zone sells stuff that you can buy if its just mold in the vent housings and in the air ducts. you have yo run the heater on hot and high to ge the moisture out then after you run it for 15-20 min spray the mildew killer in to it. .....Best of Irish luck to you on that one, it took me a month to find that mouse.

Foul odor in vehicle, especially when heat is turned on!

From experience I would say that the animal has accessed the fresh air intake (i think it hidden in the fender) for the climate control system... look for chewed spots (holes) in all the plastic ducting, inside and outside the cabin... this will give you clues about whether the animal is actually in the system before or after the fan... this CAN become a major task!... Hope this helps...;-)
