RAISE FRONT OF CAR MAKE SURE POWER STEERING RESERVIOR IS FULL OF FLUID TURN STEERING WHEEL LOCK TO LOCK (MAX TO MAX) 50 TIMES TO BLEED THE SYSTEM IF THIS DOESN'T WORK THEN IT MEANS THE SYSTEM IS SUCKING AIR SOMEWHERE

THANK YOU --- WE ACTUALLY SENT IT TO A SATURN DEALER WHICH BLED SYSTEM BUT UNFORTUNATELY BY THE TIME WE GOT IT BACK THE PRESSURE LINE IS LEAKING. WILL REPLACE THE LINE AND TRY THE BLEEDING YOU SUGGESTED --- THANKS AGAIN.

My power steering pump went out and I replaced it now its leaking somewhere else and it not the hose

Hello Jen, there are only a few places a power steering system can leak.
1, The pump itself
2. The feed hose
3. The return hose
4 The fluid reservoir
5. The reservoir hose(s)
6. The steering gear itself.
Now, its a simple job of elimination.
Do you have rack and pinion steering...there are several places a gear can leak also.
Please do some investigation. reply to me and we'll go from there.
I am considered a rack and pinion system expert.

Why doesn't steering return to center?

Hi Paul, How is the condition of your front tires? If the pump is whining at higher rpms that will change pressure down at the rack, is the rack a variable assist? My advise would be to get the pump replaced or rebuilt asap, If the pump is whiny or grinding it will send small metal particles through the system and contaminate the rack and pinon etc. Did you flush the system when you replaced the rack? Let me know a little more info, Hope this helps, Good Luck Randy.

Power steering pump pushing fluid back out when you cut off engine bleed it 4 times still does it . flushed lines bleed it again still pushing fluid out can you help me

the pump should have a check valve on the presure side causing the fluid to go through the rack to the return line if this is faulty the high presure in the system will push back when engine is turned off.

MINI ONE POWER STEERING COMES AND GOES AFTER PUMP REPLACED

2 posible solutions to your problemone is that the rack and pinion unit has a restriction inside. if you remove the return line to the power steering pump and hold over a pan start engine and the pump will push old fluid into the pan instead of recirculating back into the system. you must keep power steering pump full of fluid because the return fluid is being pumped out of the system.also some models have an electric sensor switch on the pressure line that adjusts pressure by how fast the car is going.faster the car travels less power steering pressure

My car whines when I start it and when I turn. I replaced the power steering pump but cant get it to stop

This sounds like you might have a problem with the rack and pinion. What's probably happening, is there is a seal (or seals) that is allowing air into the hydraulic system and that's why you're hearing the whining sound. Unfortunately, it's not as easy to change as the pump, but it should cure the problem.

I hope this helps! :)

If power steering pump is replaced, is it possible to damage the steering rack during the replacement of the pump?

NO. The rack usually fails because no one changes P/S Fluid every two years or so. Now if a new rack is installed and you don't flush the cooler and install a filter in the return line, you loose the new rack again from contamination from the first rack. That's a common poor work practice, even though every rack comes with a tag and instructions warning of this.

Rack

Did you connect the Pressure side and Return side P/S couplings on the Rack, Back to Front?
Did you refill the system and Purge the Air out of the Power Steer Lines with the Engine Running, and Sweeping the Steering from Right to Left, 2 or 3 times, at the same time?

Power steering pump whines.

Reminds me of a Ford where the bearings went bad in the pump. If the whine is definitely 100% coming from the pump, it's probably going bad. Try going to a junk yard that will let you pull a pump from a wrecked 'stang before buying a new pump to see if the problem goes away.
