Question about 1994 Ford Thunderbird

2 Answers

I have a 1994 ford thunderbird and it has a problem of sputtering and then stopping after about 45 minutes. It sounds like its not getting enough feul. If you let it set for about an hour or two, it will start right up like nothing has happened and run great for about 45 minutes.

All of your symtoms point to a clogged fuel filter. The filter is located underneath the car below the passenger's side door. It will have fuel lines connected at either end. You will need to depressurize the fuel system by either disconnecting the fuel relay or disconnecting the wiring harness for the fuel pump. The bolt is clamped on the frame so you will need to unbolt the mounting bolts. Then you will rotate the fuel filter our and uscrew from the fuel lines.

Do you have a check engine light lit ? Did you let it warm to normal operating temperature, If you do does it still running poorly ? You should have it hook up to a diagnostic tool to see what sensor or sensors is out of specification ! Could have coolant temp. , mass air , throttle position sensor , problem !

Thunderbird Starts Fine and after say 25 min drive on the highway. pull into lets say walmart run in back out and the car struggles to start bucking and such and usually stalls and wont start.. after it...

Sounds as if you are experiencing early stages of fuel pump failure. The pump motor is getting "hot" during the 25 minute drive. After you shut the car off and try to restart it,the pump is weak and not getting the fuel pressure up enough to allow for a quick start and smooth running. I would check the bleed down time on the fuel system and the pressure to see what it is before and after the 25 minute drive time.

How do i stop my 1994 ford explorer from sputtering and shutting down when driving at low speed

Not getting enough fuel. There are two coolant temperature sensors one for the gauge. one for the computer. the one to the computer monitors fuel. When it fails the engine is slow to start the first try and there is a strong odor of gasoline. The engine will run rough at some speeds and sometimes stall.

Battery wont stay charged alternator replaced and starter 1994 ford thunderbird

Depending on the age of your battery you should probably have it load tested. A battery with a bad cell can get what we call a surface charge. This is only good for a few minutes and it dissipates indicating a bad cell in the battery. If you loose a cell you loose two volts and that is enough to not let your vehicle start. The average battery lasts about 4 years if it is a good one. You get what you pay for in batteries. Lower priced battery equals less service out of it over the long run. Extreme hot and cold weather wreak havoc on batteries that are a few years old.
