Shift lock interlock. Check brakelights, do they come on? If not check brake light switch.

Is there a way to get my 2004 Saturn out of Park gear when the shift lever won't move when I start the car? I think there is something under the dash to switch.

Vehicle has shift lock system .won't let it move from park unless the driver has brake pedal pressed . Do the brake lights work ? Does your saturn have console shift or on the steering coulmn ? There is a electric solenoid that locks the gear shifter lever . could be bad , or wiring .

My 2003 volvo s60 gear shift will not move. The car turns on but when I try to pull it out of park it is stuck and does nothing.

There is a solenoid that release the PArk lever when the Brake is pressed. Look under the console to check the wire from the brake to the console, first, then next shop is a shop.
Some times they can just get stuck to so try giving quick little vibrations with the brake pressed (not to hard) the shifter lever.
Also make sure your break lights come on when the brake is pressed to ensure you have a proper connection there also.

Anti shift gear car wont come out of park

follow the steps . God bless you
Instructions
    • 1 Start the engine. Press firmly on the brake while wiggling the shifter from side to side.
    • 2 Remove the console surrounding the shifter. It is usually very easy although you may need to use the screwdriver to lift an edge or remove a clip
    • 3 Look inside the shifter mechanism for any sticky substance. Often when drinks are spilled on the console they seep down into the shifter mechanism and make the interlock solenoid sticky, meaning that it sticks closed when you press the brake and the car won't come out of park.
    • 4 Remove any sticky substance with the alcohol. Start the engine, press the brake and try to move the shifter out of park. If it still does not move then there may be another issue with the interlock.
    • 5 Examine the shifter for a release button that will allow you to move the vehicle out of park so it can be taken to a repair shop. It is usually hidden under a small flap or cover that will have to be lifted with a small screwdriver.

renew the brake light switch and try that ,because that switch stops you from moving the gearshift its your safety device ,if that doesnt then change the solonoid under the gearshift lever

My gear shift is stuck and will not move from park to reverse. I had backed out the car and turned it off. when I went to move the car, my gear shift will not move out of the park position.

do the brake lights work? the system has a lock out that keeps you from moving out of park unless the brake circuit is activated, hence no brake lights no park lock out release, if the brk lights do work u most have a stuck or defective park lock out solenoid.

Car wont move out of park

There is an interlock that requires the brake pedal to be depressed in order to shift the car into gear. So...first question (I have to ask!): Did you make sure to press the brake while trying to shift out of park? If so, theres a good chance that the brake switch is bad.

The gear shift get's stuck in park What do you think is causing this problem? My gear shift is stuck in park..It will not move to reverse or any thing.

Could be the shifter interlock switch - your car requires that the brake pedal is pressed before it can come out of park. If that switch is not working, the car won't ever know you're pressing the brake, and won't let the car out of park.
