Question about 2008 Ford F 250 Super Duty 4WD

2 Answers

I have a 2008 ford f250 6.4 turbo diesel. It recently developed a high pitch whistle/whine. I took it to the dealership and they said it was low on coolant in the turbo and fuel cooling system. They added coolant and blead air out of the system. About a mile down the road after I picked it up from the dealership, the whistle came back. What do I need to do?

Hi

Loose belt - lose fan belt, loose power steering belt are the main cause for the high pitch whine in car. The belts tend to stretch out over time and loosen; the turning engine "slips" the belt upon acceleration of the engine. Starting up goes from a dead stop to fast running - leading to more slippage. Also a defective starter drive or a chipped tooth on ring gear
Manually rotate engine (socket on crankshaft). Make sure vehicle is in neutral is standard and then try to start if vehicle starts probably a chipped tooth if not probably a bad starter drive .

If it was a problem with the turbo as the dealership insists then the truck would have a power loss (yes /NO) , I aggree with the other guy look for a loose belt Or bad bearing on an idler pulley that fan belt rides on , we got salt on the roads here in winter so Im allways having to lube mine with some spray lube or it'll come apart in a month or so , I do wish somebody did make a sealed bearing idler cus id buy one for sure
bad idlers sometimes take a few minutes to "Heat" up to start there Squeeling

locate the waste-gate and see if you can cover it temporarily while driving. see if this changes it any. It could have a pin sized hole in the diaphragm. just a guess.

2009 Ford F250 Super Duty Diesel Whistling coming from the Turbo

Turbos are noisy if they are working. If you have the 2009 6.4L they (twin turbo) should be pretty quiet unless you have aftermarket items installed. If no aftermarket mods have been done have the coupling joint between the turbos and the outlet gasket checked by your dealer.
If it a 2007 as the heading says the original air filter and exhaust muffle a lot of the turbo whine but not all.

High Pitch whine during acceleration

Hi Pullerwife,

I have a few suggestions for you,

First of all, check your air filter, make sure its clean, not clogged, and doesn't need to be changed.

I don't know how handy you are, but if you are fairly handy, check the idler pulley bearings, if your not, have a shop check it out, as a last resort.

Power steering pump/fluid being low is also a possibility, but thats usually more of a lower pitched whine then what you describe.

You say once the vehicle is warmed up, the whining stops. Does Weather seem to be a factor as well?

Hope I've helped, and don't forget to rate.

I have the same problem like yours but what i did is to replace the alternator and now its so quite no more high pitched sound. You may used belt stress fluid but its only last for few seconds then sound comes again. I replaced it with refurbish part alternator. My sienna 2005.
