P0296 Cylinder 12 Contribution/Range Fault
Is triggered when the Power Train Control Module (PCM) detects that the acceleration rate of the crankshaft for Cylinder #12 was less than a calibrated amount. During normal conditions the PCM turns the Fuel Injectors ON and OFF in the Fuel Injection System.
Symptoms:
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Engine Misfire
- Engine Run Rough
- Low MPG

Possible Causes:
- Fuel Injector #12
- Faulty or Corroded Fuel Injector #12 Connector
- Plugged #12 Fuel Injector
- Dirty #12 Fuel Injector

Possible Solution:
- Clean Fuel Injector #12 Connector
- Clean Fuel Injector #12
- Replaced Fuel Injector

P0298 - Engine Oil Over Temperature Condition
Indicates the Engine Oil Temperature Protection (EOT) strategy in the Power Train Control Module (PCM) has been activated. This temporarily prohibits high engine speed operation by disabling injectors, reducing the risk of engine damage from high engine oil temperature. Note: On engines which are equipped with an oil temperature sensor, the PCM reads oil temperature to determine if it is excessive. When an oil temperature sensor is not present, the PCM uses an oil algorithm to infer actual temperature. Engine shutdown strategy function is the same on vehicles with and without oil temperature sensors.

Symptoms:
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Lack/Loss of Power
- Engine Surge

P0298 is set when the vehicle has been running below 1,000 rpm and less than 20 mg/stroke MFDES with EOT sensor signal reading above 110C (230F). The time to set the fault is dependent on EOT and Intake Air Temperature (IAT) temperatures, and can vary between approx. 15 to 45 minutes

Possible Causes:
- Very high engine RPM for an extended period of time.
- Overheating condition.
- Malfunction EOT sensor or circuit (vehicles w/EOT sensor).

Possible Solution:
1. Inspect EOT sensor circuitry at sensor and PCM. Inspect for damage, loose or pushed-out pins, loose or poorly crimped wires
2. If connectors are ok check cooling system, radiator, fan/clutch operation, thermostat
3. If cooling system is ok carry out KOEO On-Demand Self Test
4. If other fault codes are present after test repair them, if only P0298 is present clear codes
5. Let vehicles sit for 8 hours and then KOEO
6. Monitor EOT in live data
7. If EOT sensor reading is above 110*C(230*F) replace sensor
8. IF EOT is below 110*C check continuous memory DTCs
9. If P0298 is present replace PCM

Hope helps (remember rated and comment this).

296 is not a valid code, I will assume it is a P0296, if that is not the case let me know.

2006 dodge ram hemi 5.7 liter trouble codes 1404 and 405 and check engine light on

The check engine light is on to tell you that the ECU has detected a fault. The faults are stored as codes. The codes both have to do with a deficiency of exhaust gas going through the EGR valve. You will need to find out if the problem has to do with the valve, a leak, or the circuit.

I got a diagnostic reporting Code P0298 on my 2005 dodge stratus 2.7 L -6. They want $622 to replace four of them. Is this necessary?

P0298=Engine Oil Over Temperature,
I have no idea what they are replacing?????
You have one of the worst engines out there!
These engines are total junk and gunk up inside enough to blow the engine,This is the only engine ever designed totally by a computer,Chrysler has shifted all blame on this engines failure to the customers,They have never stepped up to admit it was their fault.Go to www.google.com type in chrysler 2.7 engines, you are going to get really bad,you might want to think about unloading this car now!

Check engine light on code p0441 dodge ram 1500 my 2007 dodge ram 1500 is puttering and acting like it wants to die out can you let me know what the problem is.

This trouble code is Evap Purge System Performance fault. 1) Check for a loose or missing fuel cap. 2) Check for a damaged or missing fuel cap seal. Recheck for other trouble codes. This fault wont cause the stumblering problem. It turns on the MIL lamp to say there leak in the EVAP system.
