Usually this is caused by a bad dash cluster. get a good used one from a junk yard and this should solve problem. this happens on neons sometimes.

disregard top answer if allready replaced cluster. it may be the sensor in transmission the speed sensor that drives the speedometer is not turning due to a broken gear. make sure the wiring to speed sensor is ok!!
One way to check is to take your speed sensor out spin the shaft with your finger or a drill with the wires still hooked up and see if your speedometer moves

the speed sensor is located in lower part of transaxle. it is a 2 or3 wire sensor with one bolt to hold it in, power to the sensor comes from ignition switch, theres a 15 amp fuse in fuse box. have a good day!!

This problem is caused by the speedometer, u will need to have it removed and sent out for repair by a Ford approved electronics repair center, check with your local dealer for the closest repair center, do not go through the dealer it will cost much more.

Speedometer doesn't work on a 1997 honda passport 6 cyl.

It probably uses a sensor instead of a cable to register speed. Realistically speaking the vehicle needs to go to a qualified repair shop with the proper diagnostic tool to determine what component is not functioning. Perhaps you can buy and install the part yourself. Most vehicles need to be diagnosed on an electronic tester.

The speedo is electronic, this is for sure a speedo issue, either have it repaired by an authorized GM electronics repair center or replace it.

Speedometer and tachometer

Both are in need of repair, nothing else will cause this kind of problem except the inner electronics of both instruments, they can be repaired by any authorized Hyundai electronics repair station, but it won't e cheap.

Speedometer does not work properly. Since yesterday and a drive clean test the speedometer is wacky. The needle seems to be about 40Km above actual. When I turn the key of and park the car the speedometer...

The circuit board that controls the speedo has failed, this is the symtom of that failure a wacky speedo reading, sticking reading high and so on, they can be repaired by any GM authorized electronics repair center, don't go through the dealer for the repair, they will send it out to the repair station and then 2X the cost to u, get the name from them though and call them yourself.

I am having trouble with my speedometer not working occasionally and now my seat belt light is coming on sometimes too. Is this the instrument panel cluster? Or something else? 1998 Dodge Neon. Backstory is as follows: -We take very good care of it and have one dedicated mechanic. -It has only had two owners; my parents and I. -We replaced the battery 2 months ago. -Mechanic checked to make sure the speedometer sensor was working. -We have had issues with the radio for years where it will randomly turn on and off, typically brought on by a stuffed trunk OR wet weather. -The speedometer works until we hit a bump and then the needle flies up and down or sometimes just stops working all together. -Mechanic has made mention of there being some Chrysler specific battery cable that is a smaller side cable and it is not in good condition. -Currently, my problem is that I can't find an old 1998 Dodge Neon in the salvage yard because yards are doing a lot of 2002 and newer vehicles and automatically crushing the others. The meat and potatoes of my question is what direction do I go in? And what of these symptoms ties to each other? And will adding new solder to the points on the panel fix it or is it something else? I'm trying to find least expensive to most expensive options and I'm rather handy but can't drop an engine or transmission or anything so keep this in mind. My handiness ends at resoldering the pins BUT I do have a mechanic I trust, but I fear that maybe I'm not combining symptoms properly. I have the money to repair an item I KNOW is wrong but not to chicken hunt around for problems.
