Question about Ford Freestar

1 Answer

Hi there I'm new at this but we'll try to get my problem across. My husband and I own a 2004 Ford Freestar. On a recent trip our emission light came on (engine light) We researched it and even went to a local garage and the informed us with the reading was "P2004 or 6" Intake Runner Control stuck closed B 1". Whatever that means. The emission light would blink during a miss fire in the high 1000 Rpm's. 60-80km /hr. The only way we would prevent the miss fire's was drive in the 85-100km/hr with 2400 Rpm's. The emission light would stay on but no issues. As per the Canadian Tire mechanic this is commom issue but will not hurt the transmission. The garage here in the city we live in does not believe this is the cause and does not wish to fix our Intake Runner Control the emission light is off now. A previous comment was made 9months ago stating "Its hard to be very specific about a fix on this as there are a few potential fixes including the outright replacement of the intake manifold. If the Manifold Flow Valve blades are seized in the intake manifold, the manifold will have to be replaced However this code can sometimes have a very easy fix and if you are lucky you may find that it is caused by a split vacuum hose connecting to the actuator. A leak in the vacuum system will set the code and I suggest you check this out first as a potential cause." Would this be the same for us.

I think you got it all figured out.
Remove the IMRC Valve yourself, check it out for binding and any vacuum leaks as you said.
If Electronic, just install a new one.

My emissions light is on when I first started kinda shaky last night I noticed little smoke under hood would it be OK to drive an please someone tell me what this could he

The emission light comes on when the computer detects a leak or malfunctioning part in the system. It can come on due to a loose gas cap to a disconnected hose. There a lot of things that make this light come on. IS the check engine light on/flashing? If so, you may have a misfire causing the shake. If the engine light is on, have the codes scanned to isolate the problem.

What sends power to the fuel pump on a 2004 ford freestar

There is a fuse and a relay. Ford also uses an inertia switch to shut power off to the pump in the event of a collision. Sometimes it doesn't take much to trip the switch. Usually they are behind the passenger side kick panel and a push of a button resets it.

Engine codes run on 2004 Freestar

Make sure you have all the vacuum leaks repaired.
Disconnect the battery for two mins, codes my clear.
The codes you got are O2 Sensors, because of the vacuum leak, which leaned out the readings and set the codes.

2004 Ford Freestar SEL sputtering, check engine light flickering.

Engine lamp will come on if idle is too low / fuel mixture is too lean or too rich.
A faulty spark plug will cause this also.

Emission light came on now has rough idle

Go to Autozone or Oreillys and get a free scan. If the light came on, they should be able to diagnose the problem and sell you the parts to fix it.
