Question about 2004 Subaru Impreza

1 Answer

There's a knock on start up, and when I checked the oil none registered on the dip stick, no visible leaks and no oil stains anywhere. I only just gave it an oil change. There was no oil light warning at anytime.

No oil on dipstick is a very BAD THING make sure you have oil in the motor before you do anything else!!! or else it can cost you a motor if you did your own oil change,,, did you put oilpan plug back in? did you tighten the oil filter? did you put 5qts oil back into motor? there SHOULD BE A READING ON THE DIPSTICK. new oil looks almost transparent on the dipstick. try rubbing your finger on the dipstick to check for oil presence. look real close at the dipstick before you start your motor!!! if you added 5qts oil it went somewhere, are you sure it went into the motor? if no oil in motor there will be loud knocking from the motor. hope this helped you save your motor!!!!!

Foamie milky look on dip stick none in oil

You need to run a compression check on the cylinders and see if you have a head gasket leaking or an intake gasket leak. Milky look to the dipstick can only mean one thing and that is water in the oil and maybe the leak is just starting. It might be condensate but if it is it is not normal. If you don't find a problem I would check regular to make sure it is not getting worse.

MY OIL LIGHT ON IF I DRIVE IT COULD IT HURT MY MOTOR

STOP DRIVING IMMEDIATELY OR AS SOON AS YOU SAFELY CAN PULL OVER. YOU WILL DESTROY THE ENGINE WITHIN MILES. CHECK THE ENGINE OIL DIPSTICK WITH ENGINE OFF. IF THERE'S OIL IN IT. HAVE IT TOWED. IF THERE IS NO OIL ON DIP STICK ADD OIL TO FULL LINE AND START ENGINE. LOOK FOR LIGHT TO GO OFF, HOPEFULLY. LISTEN FOR KNOCKING AND LOOK FOR BLUE, WHITE OR GREY SMOKE FROM EXHAUST. LOOK FOR WET AREAS WHERE OIL MAYBE LEAKING OUT UNDER CAR OR OIL STAINS WHERE CAR IS USUALLY PARKED. HAVE A SHOP CHECK FOR ENGINE DAMAGE.

I can't imagine that your car is "burning" all that oil in 20 miles. To be sure, remove the spark plugs and look for a lot of ash or really black/oily plugs. I would say more than likely you have an oil leak. Check under your car for a lot of oil streaking. At that rate it should be everywhere underneath.

Engine knocking noise in 2000 saab 9-3 SE?

It's a common problem with these cars i am actually fixing mine as of now. That car is all about oil pressure and when it is low you'll start to get a tap and or what sounds like a knock due to the lifters not having enough pressure. Try taking your oil pan off and check your oil pick up line going from the oil pan to the turbo. A lot of times it gets a lot of sludge build up and makes the pressure little to none. If that looks clear check the slump inside the oil pan and see if that has sludge build up. Well hope this helped

The oil has to be going somewhere. Just to clarify, when you say no oil on the dip stick, You do mean when checking the oil correct? If your not leaking oil, then perhaps you are burning oil? How often do you add oil to this vehicle and how many miles are on this vehicle?
