There is a separate belt for that thought it was a Drive Belt that does all the component's.

are you asking how to go about it?? you will need to relieve the belt tension at the tensioner slightly move it back to allow the belt to come of one of the pulleys then remove it. install the new belt then re-slacken the tensioner and you are done.

should the belt just slide right on easy? because i tried relieving the tensioner and then slid that main belt off but cant seem to get the a/c belt on around that wheels it supposed to go around? thanks for your help

The belt will come of once you have pulled the tensioner away enough for you to pull it off. not sure what tools you are using but a 15mm socket with a long ratchet works OR if you have a belt tool wrench that works the best. Is it not coming off the pulley?

When fixing an ac compressor on a 97 tahoe would you have to change any thing else?

Assumming the compressor is the problem - You will need to capture the current gas and recharge the system after replacement - you will need to take it to an air-conditioning specialist first to have this done.

If it is affecting the engine performance, it could be a problem with the compressor.

When should the timing belt or chain be changed?

Hello Jstov.

The engine in your Tahoe has a timing chain.
It should last the lifetime of the engine under normal conditions.
They were very durable on the Chev small block.

Thank you for using FixYa.

My air condition belt broke in my 2001 Tahoe how can I tell if Compressor or Pulley is bad without belt?

The test is a simple one, with engine off and cooled down test the pulleys by hand, turn them slowly in the direction of rotation and feel for a binding sound or feel, if you feel a noticable bind and noise your culprit is the pulley or the a/c compressor.
Test whatever else runs off this belt as well by doing the same test.

Where is the belt tensioner on a 2001 chevy tahoe

You need to remove the front belt first. Take the tension off the belt by putting a socket or wrench on the tensioner and pivot it away. I would make a quick sketch of the belt route if you don't have a diagram. The AC compressor tensioner is on the bottom and the belt comes off the same way. Installation is the reverse.
