1997 Jetta 3 , fuel injected fuel Gage stays empty, when I turn the ignition on gage moves up to zero/empty and no more,I have checked float unit with multimeter and the output is OK, but no voltage coming to floating unit, all fusees are OK, and have tried another used cluster and exactly same,Could this be a relay problem?, what relay works the gage?

Most likely you have a bad sending unit on the fuel pump which tells how much fuel is in the tank, you will not be able to replace the fuel sending unit without replacing the fuel pump assembly. i would check the plug in for the fuel pump at the gas tank before replacing that may just have dirt in it or a bad connection in the plug in. if you do have to replace the sending unit,,,it's mounted on the side of the fuel pump inside the gas tank. make sure you mark the outside of the assembly before you remove it from the gas tank,, this will save you labor and time. if the pump does not go back EXACTLY AS it came out the fuel guage may not work,, or the pump may not work. i always mark the fuel pump with a black permanent marker on the tank assembly when removing the fuel pump... hope this helps you!!!

Gauge is not connected to any relay, its a signal from the fuel pump sending unit, you do not get voltage from that wire for the sensor you need to use a multimeter and test for ohms, every manufature is different and cant recall what it should be empty or full.

Get a shop manual or even call the local repair shop/dealer and they might give you the information you are looking for, but sounds like you have a bad sending unit and need to replace it as an Assembly.

98 oldmobile cutlass fuel gage will go to full when filled but as soon as it uses 1/4 of a tank it (the gage) drops and i dont know how much gas is in there

there is a fault with the sending unit in the fuel tank, if the gauge can move to full when you fill the tank it is good.
only way i know how to test the sending unit is to take it out of the fuel tank and hook a meter to the float wires, move the float manually and the meter will go to zero if the unit is bad

My toyota rav 4 year 1997, the fuel indicator is not working (dead, even if I pour full tank), what could be the problem

The fuel gage or the fuel sender unit inside fuel tank.
the sender unit is hard to check because is in the fuel tank.
the gage is easier, remove the cluster with the key on connect and disconnect the 2 connectors in the back of the cluster if the gage moves the problem is the sender unit inside the fuel tank.

Bought a used 99 cavalier and the fuel gage goes from near empty to half and fluctuates as i drive is there a way to figure if it is the gage or the sending unit?

It is more likely to be at the fuel tank end of the system as the fuel level float is the consantly moving part and likely to become worn and give erratic readings. Replacing the sending unit should fix the problem. Also check for a loose connection in the wiring loom near the sending unit.

Gas guage stays on full

hi this will probably be the sender unit in the fuel tank you will have to remove it then replace, it sounds like the float has stuck at top, to test, locate the wires to the fuel tank and pull one off, and see if the gage goes down, if it does its the sender unit if it does not its the Gage itself...hope that helps

My fuel gage is stuck at 3/4 of tank in my 84 chevy silverado

take the wire off that goes to the tank and ground it. if the Gage moves then it is the float if the Gage stays there then it is the Gage.
