The dash lights stay on, drain my battery, after having it jumped my car wont turn off while the key is out of the ignition until i open the driver door then the engine cuts off. but my dash lights glow...

if the key is out, and turned off, is key in off posistion (look)
if off and you have current drain, that is a problem.
your post is confusing, (car wont turn off, what does that mean)
engine stays running, or just lamps stick one,
be clear what sticks on, and we can fix this easy.
im a retired, ET, we can do this step by step.

if the engine stick on , key off, the ignition switch is bad. period.
and grossly unsafe condition ,if ever.

Key wont turn in the ignition

1997 Toyota Camry Key Wont turn, Ignition Lock problem -1997 toyota camry FIXED!!! I see a lot of Douches with a capital D trying to charge people to fix this extremely common issue with this Camry ignition cylinder. OK pull the plastic guard off encasing the steering column. Get a phillips head screwdriver and remove the 2 screws holding the little off-white connector at the rear of the module(it has the wires to the ignition running to it). Get a pair of pliers or a small crescent wrench and while trying to turn the key use the wrench to turn the little rod sticking out of the back of the module. Make sure your turning it WITH the direction the key is trying to turn it. It should immediate be freed. Voila IT WORKS! AND THATS WHY PEOPLE DONT TRUST MECHANICS! HOW CAN YOU CHARGE SOMEONE FOR THAT INFO?

Pt wont start or turn over

try to get a jump from a friend and see what happens, does the same, faulty starter, may need replacing, try to use small hammer and tap lightly on the starter couple time and have a friend start the car while you tap lightly on it. check ignition switch where you stick the key in. stick the key in the ignition and turn the key back and forth jiggle and wiggle it and see if your igniting will make contact. do it several time to test and see if its the ignition problems, this part is not cheap to replace.

Wont turn over with key?

W/out knowing details on your vehicle, it makes it very difficult to help. Year? Stick or auto>? engine/trans info. Does it have an alarm installed or a factory security system?

Common checks would be park/neutral switch (Or clutch switch if its a stick), fuses (some cars actually fuse the start signal), old alarm brain that has activated and cut off starter signal, and do the cluster lamps go into SELF TEST and all light up when you turn the key to CRANK. If the lamps do the normal cranking bulb check, then likely your ignition switch is working. depending on the year, ford ignition switches sometymes could be a common problem. But without info to look up a diagram, cant offer more help than generalities

1998 nissan altima gxe -ignition problem

Hi what is happening is that your turn off your car and left the wheels turned to one side and specially if your car is parke in a hill what you have to do is to force the steering wheel to the same direction of your wheels this will free up the ignition switch it is going to be hard let me tell you but it will work and this is why your shift don't work once you have the ignition switch free then your shift will work again

Key wont turn

no it sounds like the ignition clinder is broken or worn down inside either that or maybe the key itself. get a new key made (local hardware store) and try that one if that doesnt work im afraid that you may need a new key and tumbler
