Question about 1995 GMC Sonoma

1 Answer

I just installed a new a/c compressor clutch I put the correct r-134 I put new hoses a new condenssor and accumulator . My problem is I cannot get the clutch to kick in unless I run jumpers to the battery from the compressor and when I do it that way it kicks in and is really cold. I checked the fuse and it is ok . I have no electric on the prongs that plug into the compressor . What is my problem?

You may have a few different problems including a defective pressure switch

when you added the "correct R-134" did you also add oil?

replacing that many parts requires additional oil

Therefore, you may not have enough "pressure"

do you have a/c gauges?
did you evac the system for at least an hour after replacing the parts?

    yes... its easy

use the paper clip to jump between the dark green and dark blue wire

HOWEVER.... be very careful not to jump to the dark green wire with a white stripe because that goes back to your computer and you will likely destroy it!

1986 Pontiac Fiero. What has to be done to be able to use R-134 refrigerant?

There are simple conversion kits that basically just replace the service ports to use the r-134 type hoses, but it is best to have a pro evacuate system and flush it, draw a vacuum, add correct oil and freon. If the system has been empty or dead a while, best to replace dryer and orifice tube or expansion valve as well.

Car A/C not getting cold; new compressor, the clutch is spinning, new pressure sensors, new hose.

i'm not an expert on a/c but have found quite a few vehicles that have similar problems and the majority have been the evaporator , as you've obviously had a major overhaul on the a/c it could well be that or the condensor as that was'nt replaced , your choice as to what you start with really

I tried to put Freion in my Buick Lasabre but the hose won't fit on the Port. What is wrong?

Hello: If your system has R-134 then you need a 134 hose assembly to service it. You service the system on the low side (large line) the service port will be on the large line or the accumulator.

HAVE A 1998 MERCURY SABLE. I AM TRYING TO CHANGE THE AC LINES AND WHEN I PULLED THEM OFF,BLACK FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM THE COMPRESSOR

You had a compressor failure

Now you have a big job ahead of you

You will have to install a new compressor

Remove & Flush all hose assy's

Remove & flush the condensor

Replace the drier or accumulator

Flush the evaporator in place

Put new oil in all components in the correct amounts

91 Aerostar AC oil capacity

R-12 isn't designed to work in an vehicle so I have no idea what to tell you there. R-22 was used in vehicles but is not available to the general public without a license which cost more than the R-134 conversion kit.

The condensor (or dryer) needs to be replaced if its older and especially if the compressor has not worked is several months or more..
As a matter of fact - allot of the time whn you buy a compressor they will not waranty it unless you buy a dryer too..
Also - be sure the compressor is getting power..

Rate well ;o)

2002 ford expedition air conditioner needs R 134 refrigerant. I cant seem to locate the service port.

The low pressure valve on the 02 expedition is located on the accumulator on the passenger side fire wall. The accumulator is underneath the battery relay and a grouping of wires. Had to squeeze hand underneath a heater2_bing.gif hose and an a/c line to remove cap and hook up hose. Nothing has to be removed to locate the valve just a little touchy feely. Valve faces a 45 forward toward the engine.

AC compressor blows fuses when it goes to kick on.

As a mechanic I NEVER put that JUNK in ANY system, they clog up A/C compressor's and every thing elese. (You might have to replace most of the components in your vehicle now. ie condenser, evaporator, compressor, receiver/dryer (accumulator), orifice tube (thermo expansion valve) and you may be able to flush out the lines.
