Question about 2000 Kia Sephia

1 Answer

I just replaced the engine in my 2000 Sephia, had the trans. rebuilt, new plugs, new fuel pump, new fuel filter. The motor is from a 2002 Spectra, same specs. It has starting troubles. After warm up, the motor won't start. I started moving the air hose to fuel console just slightly to allow a little more air in. After 4 or 5 cranks it sputters a little, then put the hose (from air filter) back on the motor and it will eventually start. This happens regularly, I have to move the air delivery hose slightly until it sputters and then it will crank. Is this an oxygen sensor or something else?

The only way to know anything is to use a diagnostic scanner to see what the computer sees. Without the proper tools its anyones guess.

How many motor mounts does a 2005 Kia spectra have? Do they all have to be replaced at the same service visit? Are there different mounts for automatic and standard transmission mounts? thanks!

Will do my best since I'm reading from a Chilton manual that covers Sephia/Spectra 1994-2004. Here I will quote directly from the book. It's under ENGINE: Engine mounts-check and replace. Page 2A-22.
1) There are 4 engine/transaxle mounts on these models; the front engine mount, the passenger side engine mount (next to the timing belt upper cover), the rear lower engine mount (under the intake manifold) and the transaxle mount (under the air filter housing).
There is much more to this section, but you were asking about how many, not about replacing them yourself. And if it were I, yes I would replace them all at the same time. Given the labor intensive (jack up and secure car. Then jack up and secure engine, etc) have them all done so that all are the same age. As a couple side notes. The book doesn't make reference to any difference whether it be manual or automatic. And you would do well to go to your local auto parts store and pick up one of these manuals. This particular one covers not only our 1995 Sephia, but the 2002 Spectra as well. Makes sense since the Spectra is a re-badged Sephia.

Check your fuel pump. It doesn't cost much to change the filter, under $12.

1994 v6 Nissan pickup dies at stop lights. won't idle.

Hello, first is it carburetor or fuel injected engine? When was the last time it was tuned up?
If carbureted engine then the carburetor will need to be rebuilt or replaced with a rebuilt carb.

If fuel injected engine. low fuel pressure, faulty fuel injectors, new air cleaner, throttle position sensor might need to be replaced, air flow sensor could be faulty, broken vacuum hoses, plug fuel filter, faulty fuel pump, new spark plugs, etc. All of these things need to be checked out.

You are probably not getting very good fuel mileage. Couple of things will be needed. rebuild carburetor, new filters, and a tune up. GB...stewbison

My 2002 spectra is losing power. It has a new battery, new fuel pump, new fuel filter. It makes a noise like its trying to **** air. what could be wrong?

Hi, sounds like your air inlet or may have torn or came loose from the throttle body. This will cause a lean operation of the engine. Open the hood and look for a big hose unhooked or loose from the engine, or perhaps the hose has cracked open. Please let me know if this isn't the problem or you have any questions.
