Yes. As per federal law all electric fuel pumps must be inside the fuel tank in case they fail. This prevents fuel from spilling on the road.

If the fuel pump is inside the gas tank, remove the gas cap, to equalize the air-pressure inside/outside the gas tank. That should let the fuel pump "suck" the gas from the tank.

This sounds llike weak feul pressure, the fuelpump may need replacing, the first thing to do is have the fuel pressure tested and if the pressure is low then have the pump replaced. the pump is located inside the fuel tank and the tank will need to be dropped to replace the pump, good luck ,

How to change my fuel pump on a 2003 1500 silverado

To begin, if you've never changed an electric fuel pump, you are safest to take it to a proffessional. The pump is located inside your fuel tank and requires dropping the fuel tank out and away from the vehicle to gain acsess. In addition there are several trick and tips, too numerous to mention about the removal of the lock ring and the pump replacement. Thank you, Dana

Change Fuel Pump on 1999 Chev Silverado v8 2 wd automatic 2 door

well the pump is in the fuel tank and it depends if the tank is full or not if it is its very heavy and you will need a jack and 1 other person to help you there are two fuel lines to unhook and the electrical connector. When replacing it replace the entire fuel pump/sending unit and the electrical harness or you will end up having more problems also spend the extra 15$ and replace the fuel filter

Possible problems associated with replacing the fuel pump.

no to all of your questions the fuel tank (pump is in tank)is in a completely different location. I would question weather your mechanic is trust worthy, this may have been a "make work" deal for your mechanic. however it is possible that it's merely a coincidence.
