Question about 1996 Saab 900

1 Answer

I have a 1996 Saab 900S that the battery died in just from sitting too long. I removed the battery cables and put the battery charger on it. It charged up the way it's suppose to, but now the alarm goes off when I hooked the cables back up. I also replaced the batteries in the key fob thinking that it may be the problem.but that didn't work out either. Ant idea how to solve this problem, or what I need to do to manually bypass the security system?

How to get check engine light off on a 1995 Saab 900S?

Pull the battery cables off and let them sit off for about 30secs. If the code comes back on after the battery is disconnected than that means you have a hard code and will have to have the car scanned and reset. There are two kinds of codes, hard and soft, hard codes need to be scanned and reset soft codes are simple issues that by disconnecting the battery the codes will go away.

How do i get my key out of a 1996 saab 900

As part of the safety/theft detterent system, most SAABs will only allow key removal when YOU PUT THE (manual) TRANSMISSION IN REVERSE. Not sure how it would work with an automatic transmission. If yours is a manual transmission, give that a try. I had a 1992 SAAB 900S convertible. Ran like a raped ape but the A/C gave out on us. Miss the old girl though.

Hope this helps!

Must be a seized mechanism, if it is the rear hinged type, you need to get behind the grille if you can and release the catch from underneath.

Replacing ignition switch on Saab 1996 900s 2.3 I 5 speed

You take all the center console and plastic ducts from between the seats. There are 4 10mm bolts holding the shifter mechanism to the floor. Take these off and do your best to flip the whole housing to where you can access the bottom side. The ignition switch is attached under there. As I recall there are 2 T20 screws holding it on.
