Question about Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

In my 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the upper row of switches on the console (the buttons to turn off the rear-view camera, the traction control, power outlet, etc) are not working nor are they backlit. The only button that is working is the hazzard flasher button. Is there a fuse that I could check before having to take the vehicle to the dealer? Thanks

    Thanks for the reply. Actaully the camera works fine, it is just the entire row of switches located under the radio that are not working (with the exception of the hazzard flashers).

The only fuse in this camera's circuit is associated with the Rear tail lamp back up fuse or the IOD Ignition-Off draw fuse located in the Power distribution center under the hood, mounted in a black box driver side with a removeable lid.

Fuse location in the Intergrated Power module for the IOD is ;
Cavity # 27 15 amp Blue fuse
Cavity # 28 20 amp Yellow fuse

Fuse location for Camera is;
Located in the Power distribution center
Cavity #27 15 amp blue

    The electrical current distributed throughout this vehicle is directed through the Power Distribution Center (PDC) (1) and Integrated Power Module (IPM) (2). The PDC is located in the left front corner of the engine compartment, between the IPM and the brake master cylinder. The PDC houses maxi-type cartridge fuses, which replace most in-line fusible links. Some fusible links still exist in the electrical harness depending on powertrain combination. The PDC also houses blade-type mini fuses, and International Standards Organization (ISO) relays.

    The Integrated Power Module (IPM) (2) is a combination of a printed circuit board based module that contains fuses and relays and the Front Control Module (FCM) (3). The FCM contains electronics that control the IPM as well as other vehicle functions. The IPM connects directly to the battery positive via a stud located on top of the unit. The ground connection is via electrical connectors. The IPM provides the primary means of voltage distribution and protection for many vehicle systems.

    The IPM (2) is located in the engine compartment, next to the battery (5) and in front of the Power Distribution Center (PDC) (1). It is secured to a bracket with three locating slots that snap onto the bracket tabs holding it securely in place. The printed circuit board portion of the IPM cannot be repaired and must be replaced if inoperative or damaged.

    Ok, but you may still find a fuse that is blown in the PDC as described previously. Otherwise, a more detailed diagnotsic procedure with A DRB scanner is required.

My 06 grand cherokee laredo has a 4x4 emblem on the vehicle, and a traction button on the dash, how do I operate the 4x4?

Your jeep should have full time four wheel drive. To place the transfer case in low range look down to the console towards the rear and you will see a "T" shaped handle. To place it into low range you should stop place the vehicle into park and lift the T handle and in the dash a 4X4 indicator lamp will light up. The traction button on the dash would be used in 4 wheel high mode when you start to experience wheel slippage upon take off from a stopped position. This will give you a little more control. You only need to use the low range for very slow speeds in mud or snow. Otherwise just leave it in high range because it is always using 4 wheel drive. This is a very reliable system which Jeep has refined over the years. Your Grand Cherokee is not designed fro hard core off road use. Hard core off road use will destroy the undercarriage. The Grand Cherokee is more of a luxury soccer mom 4X4 with good road manners, a comfortable ride, and good reliability.
