Is the coolant level in the resivoir up to the cold mark when the engine is cold? if so than the coolant level switch is most likely bad. You will need to remove the coolant tank to replace the switch

not the pump but air in the system or a broken wire to the coolant level sensor
that sensor at the top of the radiator tank has to be completely immersed in coolant or the circuit is broken and the light comes on
same effect id the wire to that sensor is broken in the insulation

My 1997 Pontiac grand prix FTP low coolant light wont stop flashing what's wrong

You most likely have a low coolant sensor that is defective, it is a common problem on all GM cars. The sensor is held in with a clip in the side tank of the radiator.

Low coolant light continues to come on. The coolant is full. Reasons why?

This is a common problem and it caused by a defective low coolant light sensor. The sensor is either located in the bottom of the coolant surge/recovery tank or in the side tank of the radiator.

Low coolant light coming on, overflow tank full

The sensor in the bottom of the coolant tank may need replaced, it tells how much coolant is in there. You will have to drain the coolant tank, remove the tank and you will be able to remove sensor.

Just bought a 1999 ford taurus. Service ensgine soon light comes on. A message says low coolant. Diagnostic code that it throws is P1744. Will adding coolant to it clear this code or are they unrealted?

HI, sorry to tell you this but the DTC P1744 is being set do to excessive slipping in the transmission so coolant wont help this. The low coolant is probably due to a crack int he expansion tank where you add coolant. I would recommend stopping at a local transmission shop and let them tell you your options. Good luck

Is it the LOW coolant light? Your car is equipped with a sensor on the expansion tank (radiator overflow). Right front fender. It's there for when the car heats up. As the engine heats up and the coolant expands it racks into the reservoir/overflow/expansion tank. When the engine cools, it sucks the coolant back in. If your car was low on coolant then there's a good possibility that as it cooled, it sucked the recently added fluid in. Check that it is full to the "cold full" level by looking at the tank before you start it for the day. If it's not, then the sensor is telling you to add coolant. If it is, then the sensor in the tank may be bad.

Low Coolant light

Sounds like your sensor unit in your coolant overflow tank. Like nearly everything man made that floats, they will eventually leak (become water logged). This is a relatively cheap fix, as long as the light is coming on and the coolant level in the overflow tank is between the MIN and MAX lines in the overflow tank. This means that the float in there is dropping below the actual fluid level (watter logged) and you need to get a replacement sensor unit (aka sending unit) for the overflow tank.

Otherwise, if the coolant level in the overflow tank IS BELOW the MIN level line on the tank, then you are losing coolant somewhere and that is when things start to get expensive (might be a radiator problem, head gasket, cylinder head, heater core, etc).

Car running hot

There is a level /float sensor inside the tank.

Wait until the engine is cold, empty the coolant tank and rinse.

Refill will 100% coolant to the COLD / COOL / LOW mark.
