Welcome to FixYa.com I would check the basic things first. Buy a can of carb cleaner like 2+2 carb spray- start engine --spray around manifold gaskets, vacuum lines, and brake booster. Check plug wires-- with ohm meter(specs per inch are below) Moreover, i have no idea what sensors you replaced or the engine size, so have you replaced the cam sensor. Check the firing order. Let me know how it is going, Regards, LeeOUR 1997 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE TSI HAS BEEN DRIVING - bce66c1.pngf753a1b.png

Hi,

This is a problem with either the fuel system or the ignition system, but I'm inclined to say it will be the fuel system.

However if you want to fix it quickly then if you can get a workshop to put a scan tool on it an get the fault codes from the computer, this way you can narrow down what area to check and also narrow it down to the exact components that are are fault.

Let me know if you need more information.

Thanks

Jason

    Ok,

The fault is not in the MAP sensor the problem is with the voltage going to the MAP sensor is too high, the area which is causing this is the following:

    1. The wiring itself has ground somewhere
    2. The wiring has a break in it somewhere

So what you need to do is either connect a ERB tester or test the wiring circuit from the MAP sensor connector.

If you are able to do this let me know and I can give you more information.

And what size engine and mileage on the vehicle?

  • GetMeOttaHere Aug 25, 2010

    Possible causes;

MAP sensor ground circuit is open

MAP sensor wiring harness has a bad connection and will need to be cleaned and verified it is connecting good...real good.

    ACTION:

Is the MAP sensor voltage above 4.6 volts?

  • GetMeOttaHere Aug 25, 2010

MAP voltage test is with the engine running by the way.

    how do i do this?

  • GetMeOttaHere Aug 25, 2010

There are three wires on the MAP sensor; Of the three wires on cavity number 3 there should be an orange wire. This is where you take a voltage reading with a volt meter.

The only component I know of, that shuts a Jeep off while idling or driving 40mph down the road, is a bad crank sensor. Usually when it starts going bad, it will sporadically shut off, like yours does. Eventually, it will just die and the Jeep will not start at all. Have it tested and replaced, if necessary.

there would have been enough induced voltage flying back through the electrical system to keep the motor running. This is not always a good test.A little bit more explanation would be helpful.Does that check gauge remain on or off while driving normally? When it goes off or on does it do it spasmodically or does it do it until you restart the engine?Regards

I am driving down the road and for no reason the engine stalls

Hi BigJoe,

Have you had any issues with your keys/ignition?

I have a Cherokee and a Wrangler. The Cherokee's ignition switch started getting flaky a while back. Sort of doing what you describe.

On mine, engine would die, dash lights out, like the ignition was turned off.

I'd give the tilt a bang and everything was back to normal. I got a replacement at a junk yard for $5.00.

The key symptom is, do the dash lights go out when the engine dies?

If not, disregard.
