Question about 2007 Dodge Caliber SXT Sport Hatchback

1 Answer

I have a 2007 Awd, Dodge Caliber R/T Rear Brake lights not working. All Of my other lights on the car are operational. Rear directional's work fine, All bulbs the have been replaced. The brake light in the rear Hatch-back works and responds when I depress the brake. This seemed to all start when i installed an aftermarket trailer hitch and harness. After i installed the harness they worked fine for a short period of time. Is there some sensor that Dodge has installed to recognize Conductor variations? I have disconnected the wiring for the Hitch but still have no rear brake Lights?

Disconnect the harness and then check the brake light switch near the brake pedal. It can be checked with an OHM METER for continuity. If its an open (OL) displayed in the meters window replace the switch. The brake light switch on the pedal area operates the 12 volt lamps at each side of the vehicle only. The upper brake light operates on a 110 inverter since the bulbs are 110 volts. Upon wiring the trailer harness wire the brake lights to the same circuit to the tail lamp circuit for each side. You probably had them wired to the directionals instead causing this problem

2007 chysler caliber shifter will not come out of park

Check your brake lights are working first as this can cause that problem, the brake switch could be defective causing the shifter to lock.
There is an override but only used in emergency to get you to garage or home.
Down the right side of shifter there is a cover or removable plug about the width of a finger so you can press the release button inside.
Safety systems getting too "safe".

No brake lights and Gearshift won't come out of park

That sounds like a defective brake light switch, located
by the brake pedal. If you normally would have to depress the
brake pedal to shift out of park, the problem lies in the vicinity
of the brake light/pedal switch.

the first thing to do is check all your fuses, then make sure the brake light work, the shifter release seliniod works off the brake pedal.if the brake lights dont work then it will not send power to release the shifter.

there is special tools for this application.. its a trim tool.. looks like a two pronged fork on a 45' angle type sorta deal. anything that can get under both sides and "pop" the pin up will work too.
