Question about 1999 GMC Jimmy

1 Answer

1999 JImmy after vehicle sits over 3 hours I start (not a problem to start) it will idle at 500 RMPs and start to putter and putter. If I hit the gas it will go to 3000 RPMS with no problem then once I release the gas it will putter and putter. Can not even move the truck until it warms up for approx 4 minutes. Just changed wires, plugs and spider injector. Once vehicle is warmed up Jimmy runs like a champ. Any suggestions?

Try cleaning the throttle body (throttle body cleanner ONLY). Uncover the TB (engine off) & inspect the butterfly by moving the throttle by hand, if the underside & down inside the TB has a bunch of carbon (black soot) that could hamper with the idle! Also, check the fuel pressure @ the rail, under 60 psi could cause bad idle. Air filter clean? Did you make SURE that the terminals under the spider injector wiring harness has NO pins bent over during connection?! Also could check the throttle possition sensor & the mass air flow sensor if need be.

1999 GMC Jimmy won't start. Tried adding little gas into butterfly at air intake. Sounds like trying to fire a little. I took the distributer cap off. Cleaned contacts. Still won't start.

1999 jimmy doesn't have a carb. has fuel injection . From what you have typed here i would suggest you take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop !

Sounds like dirt made it's way to the fuel pick up from sitting on an angle. You can try removing the sender through the rear seat to detect a clog and or the fuel filter underneath. Honestly..... have it towed to reputable repair shop or dealer for evaluation.

We have the same problem we changed the fuel pump and it fix the problem for about a week, the van started puttering and didn't start until the 20th try. Now we are looking at the fuel filter. What a way to spend the 4th.

99 cherokee idle issue

First thing to check is the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS), it should read around 1.0 Volt at idle.
