The engine must be running to add coolant to a hot engine. When your water hit the head/block it vaporized and blew back. The engine is probably OK even though it probably lost some coolant and got hot.

2000 Lincoln Town Car. The A/C unit is erratic. When I increase speed, the a/c blower increases. To get any heat I have to put the temperature to 90 degrees. Any advice?

The heater core and radiator require flushing every 2 years / 24,000 miles.
The coolant cap on the reserve tank need to be pressure tested.

Please do the flush with water and it it circle for 1 day then re-flush again
Fill with 50/50 coolant mix.

FLUSH COOLANT SYSTEM REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP.BESURE TO USE 50/50 ANTIFREEZE AND WATER.TO RAISE BOILING POINT.PLAIN WATER WILL BOIL AWAY OR EVAPORATE CAUSING COOLING LOST WHICH MAKE ENGINE OVERHEAT.

Leaking hose, nead part number. my engine overheats in a manor of miles.

take out one of your spark plugs and see if they smell like gas. if they do, tell a machanic. it could blow up soon so be carefull. if there is water leaking then you need a water pump

Dodge 318 overheating.

HI. It could possibly be the the thermostat is stuck shut. If thats the case when the vehicle warms up it will probably overheat all the time. The best way to tell is buy a new one and change it. They are usualy around $10.00 at any autoparts store. If you change it and it still overheats, it could be the waterpump.

Where is the thermostat located on a 1996 Lincoln Town Car?

The thermostat is in the housing bolted to the intake that the upper radiator hose goes to. Check the Intake manifold for leaks, these are prone to cracking the Intake. Check the front crossover behind the alternator and check the rear where the heater hose is hooked.
