People think like the old days where a tune up fixed 90% of the running problems, not so no more with OBD , OBD2 and CAN systems, the check engine light is the only thing YOU have that tells you there is something wrong with the vehicle. Unless you are able to retrive the codes that are set in memeory in the computer there is nothing anyone here can tell you other then take in to a repair facility that you trust to help you out.

Good Luck

2005 rodeo diesel, engine light comes on @100-110kms hour, will cruise at that, but wont go any faster unless u put foot hard to the floor, after about 5-10secs light goes away, motor picks up,comes up as

check that the engine light coming on is in fact a warning light telling you that you have reached max road speed allowable . By putting the foot down you are telling the ECM to ignore the setting and to increase the available power to go faster ( as in passing ) run the fault codes to check for sensor problem and talk to a service dealer as to the reason as there may be an upgrade for the CPU software in the ECM.

Engine temperature coolant sensor

Your description indicates the engine/coolant thermostat is faulty and allowing at least some coolant to continue circulating so at higher road speeds the engine is over cooled.

I have a 1992 daihatsu charade automatic with the 1.3 litre efi motor and it gets poor fuel economy about 10 litres to 100 kms. The motor has done only 130000kms and runs and idles fine .I have had all...

Some sensors on cars will not set a code untill 3 to 5 minutes of drive time. So uplugging them and plugging them back in will not set a code. Also some of them will not set a code until the car has been driven twice, this is called a two trip code set. If you haven't already done this I would do a tune up, ie plugs wires cap rotor air and fuel filter these are the most common fixes for bad fuel economy.

Service engine light comes on

make sure your fuel cap it tight. does it blink or just stay on? what kind of other things happen when the light comes on? you could also go to advance auto or auto zone and they will check the trouble code for free and let you know what it might be.

Gas Light comes on

Hi,

The amount of mile that you can drive after your gas light comes on differs from car to car. Most cars have around 2 gallons in the reserve tank. Generally you should be able to go 50 miles after the gas light comes on, but that's pushing it. Of course sometimes you can go much more, but that depends on the type of driving you are doing (city or highway, is it a flat road & the condition of your car).

Sediments sink to the bottom of the gas tank & I don't like the thought that these get sucked into my engine, I think you would like to avoid as much as possible replacing your cars engine.

Calculate the size of your reserve tank

1) Read the car manual.
2) The moment your light comes on, fill the tank to the very top, now subtract the number of gallons you filled from the size of your gas tank, and you have the size of your reserve tank.

If you like adventures, and you know your car mpg, the moment the light comes on, bring your trip meter to zero, & drive the car till it comes to a stop. Now you know both the estimated miles you can go on your reserve tank & you can calculate its size. Make sure you have a can of gas in your trunk, to fill up after the car stops. This is the least recommended solution.

I don't recommend pushing it beyond 50 miles after the gas light comes on.

All the best.
