I have a 1996 grand am need to know where throttle position sensor is located on car

As the name implies --- screws hold it
on the throttle body

You will have to follow & remove the plastic
air intake ducting, from the air filter to the
throttle on the engine.

We can not know, to the exact inch, where
every one is located on all vehicles

I hooked my truck up to a sensor and got back po0505. thats the throttle sensor. its causing the engine to stop idling sometimes. anyone help me out with how to fix it?

If it is your throttle position sensor it will be located on the throttle body. This sensor tells the Control Module the position of the throttle plate to adjust fuel air mixture accordingly. It is held on by 2 screws and a connector.Remove the screws and disconnect the connector.I would also recommend that you have it tested by your local service station for proper operation before replacing it since they are a little pricey.

Where is the Throttle Position Sensor located on a 1996 GMC Yukon 350 5.7L 2WD

It is located on the throttle body, it is on the other side of the throttle shaft where the throttle cable hooks up, see the picture below.

Bad throttle position sensor

TPS is right on the throttle body The shaft that operates the inlet butterfly passes through it. There are two torx screws holding it on. There is no adjustment so it is a bolt on item. (think it's about $50)
