  • eddierod65 Aug 25, 2010

did you get the model and the code

  • eddierod65 Aug 25, 2010

no i am not able to measure this in milliseconds the thing is that i dont know if the cumputer is sending the signal all i know is that the wires going to the selenoid are okay and that the selenoid open if i put 12 volts on it

  • eddierod65 Aug 25, 2010

i am getting a p0758 on the scaner after i changed the reverse drum on a zf-19 transmition .i checked the selenoid num two and its fine i also checked the wires going from the computer to the selenoid and that too is fine. how do i mesure the volts from the computer to the selenoid to see if the computer is sending the correct signal. when i start the car, reverse is fine but it engages hard, but when i put the car in drive .the car seems to engage in third gear with no power. the car is a 2000 bmw 323ci whith trip tronic trans . i used synthetic oil with this application ,compatible with esso oil recomended from bmw, since i cant get the original oil here.please reply to to as soon as posible because i had just changed the expert because the other one toke to long to answer, and his answer didnt help me at all

  • eddierod65 Aug 25, 2010

yes i put vaseline to the washer i need to know what voltage i need to get on the selenoid num 2 what is the proper way to mesure this do i need to put the car on drive or do i need to leave it in park or what i need to know

  • eddierod65 Aug 26, 2010

i get p0758 I changed a broken reverse drum and yes i checked continuity from the computer plug to the selenoid num 2 and its fine. how can i test to see if the computer is sending the correct signal and if so what would i look for .i also checked the selenoid with 12 volts and it opens and closes it seems to be fine also .could this problem be with the computer it self and if so how can i test this. thank you in advance may be you can help me. i been trying to fix this problem for two weeks already .oh i forgot i used a synthetic oil for this aplication and not the original esso oil recomended by bmw because no body sells it here could that be a problem

Hi.

As you said, If solenoid is opening when energized, and it does read continuity with no power, then the switch is good, there is no more to test in there. Ensure and double check that wiring to TCM has continuity, Even if it does not read open there may be an occasional broken contact, enough to trigger the error code.

Once you have done that, the only possibility remaining is a bent pin or a bad soldering joint in TCM connector, or a defective TCM. Testing is done taking apart the TCM and looking for bad solder joint (check continuity on pcb/connector circuit). The TCM is usually replaced rather than tested at component level, most of them are even sealed.

Having this transmission apart did you apply Vaseline to the washer to keep in place upon placing the forward drum in? That washer must stay centered upon instalation or no forward gears will engage

Yes I got it, I'll just check it for you and try to find you a solution.

Ok the fault code is actually PO758 which is indicating that there is a fault either in the wiring or the solenoid itself.

Now when testing this it 's about the switch time of the solenoid not the fact that there is power to the solenoid, it may sound like it is switching or you can see it switching.

But it is the time it takes for it to switch that needs to be tested, and that can only be done via a proper scan tool, which can measure the switch time in milliseconds.

The switching time for this solenoid is 700mil secs.

Are you able to do this?

Let me know and I can give you more information about it.

You need to check that you are getting voltage to the solenoid first, if you can establish this then you you can figure out weather it is the ECM or the solenoid.

Safe mode the car will go in forward, 2nd gear. If it's not going forward, you waited to long. Time for a rebuild.

Huffy bmw from walmart charged it and it won't work. Charged for 18 hours as the book says..it won't move foward or reverse. I don't know what we done wrong. If anything.

If it came preassembled, take it back for another. If you put it together, go back over the instructions, make sure you did it right. If you did, take it back and get another. Some times new things are just bad from the get go.

No reverse 2000 bmw 323i

i think you should speak to a transmission place local.
i think your clutch drum is faulty and yes it would need a replace.
i know transmission people will look at it for free, if its a good place they will know as must of had this type of box in before.
i get this on other makes and yes it it finished but every make of box is different.

Tranny goes in reverse but wont go into foward gears

how many miles on trans? does fluid smell burnt?350 turbos are good tranneys but they do go bad. in my experance its reverse that goes out first on thies transmissions but thats not saying that it does not happen the other way either. my best guess is you need a rebuild. when you say it tries to move in forward gear that tells me that the clutches are shot. 350 turbos are worth rebuilding. its up to you.

Bmw e46 steptronic box, up to 1 minute delay in taking up foward drive in the morning from cold. perfect in reverse, fine for the rest of the day.

How old is the gearbox oil? In some cases, older oil (higher viscosity when old) will be too "thick" in colder weather and inhibit the synchro on your gears from slipping into 1st gear. The reason it only happens in 1st, is 'cause the shifting mechanism on the forward change is finer than that of the reverse change.

POSSIBLE Solution: Replace the gearbox oil with a lower viscosity ie. "thinner" oil.
