This happened to mine and the lock cylinder had to be replaced. Ford offers one that can be coded to your key for about $100.00 wholesale. Other places will sell you one with a new key but that will need to be programmed to start car as it has a security chip in key. If you can get the old cylinder to turn it will be easy to replace if not it will have to be drilled out. Common problem and the ford cylinder is made different from the old one as they have problems

Ignition problems

If the key won't turn in the ignition barrel, it could be as simple as the key is worn. If you have a spare key try that first.

I have a 2000 Ford Focus. I put the key in the ignition, but it won't unlock. What can I do to unlock the ignition? Thanks!

Are you using a key with a "Chip"? or a copied one?
You can get the engine to "ON" position with a crafted key that'll open the doors, but without the proper coded key the Ignition won't go off.

Steering wheel is locked making it so key will not start car or get car out of park

Key won't turn in ignition

This problem is related to stuck up or cracked ignition cylinder. There are many other ford focus users facing the same problem. In some cases wiggling the key in the ignition helped but in most of the cases the ignition cylinder has to be replaced. And the new key has to be re-programmed.The cost of all this stuff is near to $300.Some users claimed this problem to the local ford dealers and they go this problem solved by the dealer but in some cases the car owners paid $300 for getting this problem solved. But first you can try bit of wiggling the key in the ignition and check. Also apply some wd-40 spray in the key ignition hole and let it remain there for few minutes then recheck by wiggling the key and check. ---------------------You can click this link below and read what others have to say about this same problem of " key won\'t turn in ignition on 2003 Ford Focus". http://www.carcomplaints.com/Ford/Focus/2003/accessories-interior/key_wont_turn_in_the_ignition.shtml --------------- That's it.

I have purchased a 2004 1.8 tdci ford focus,I need a spare key!

go on ebay to by the key and then get it cut at like target or walmart...

once you get the new key...

1-insert and remove key from ignition two times

2-close and open driver door two times

3-insert and remove key once from ign.

4-close and open drvr door twice

5-insert key into ign.,then close driver door

6-turn key to on (not start) then off, twice this is rewrite mode

7-remove key from ignition, the door locks should cycle twice.if not start over.it may take a few tries.

8-press lock/unlock together and hold for a second

9-release,and press lock on remote, the door locks will cycle confirming program.continue to do other remotes you have, steps 8 and 9.if only one in possession, you are done. To end mode open door or insert key into ignition.

You'll need to follow the steps with no more than a 1-2 second delay between each step.. hope it works
