IT SHOULD GIVE YOU THE REQUIRED SPECIFICATIONS ON THE FLUIDS TO BE PUT INTO YOUR VEHICLE. IF IT WAS THE CORRECT FLUID PUT INTO THE TRANSMISSION, YOU MAY HAVE JUST OVER FILLED THE TRANS FLUID. IF YOUR VEHICLE HAS A TRANSMISSION DIPSTICK (ORANGE), CHECK THE LEVEL READING.

What would be the cause of transmission not engaging when put into any gear (automatic)

Could be low transmission fluid, or dirty fluid/filter...please check fluid with motor running...check color of fluid should be reddish...not dark brown...Before giving up...try adding a bottle of Lucas Oil Transmission Stabilizer fluid...can be added without draining anything...hope this helps...

My '92Cadillac Eldorado want move when I put it in gear and it's making a whining noise! What's wrong?

The first thing you should do is check the transmission fluid and make sure it is full. If it's a really dark color and smells burnt then I'd recommend replacing it. If it's clean looking fluid then check to make sure the shift linkage is fully engaging the transmission into gear.

My kia sportage 1997 automatic transmission has the following problem, only in the first start of the day, or when the car stay a long time stoped, when i put in reverse, the reverse doesn't engage, it...

check the stick and see what color the fluid is. the more brown it is the older it is. also you only get one shot at this but whip the bottom of the stick with your fingers and see how much black comes off that area. That's metal. if it only does that when its cold it might be 1)the filter needs to be changed cause the pump is not getting fluid till it thins out after it warms up, or 2)... actually that's 1 and 2 put together. so then 3) might me the clutch slave if its a manual might have an issue. Trannies are a beast to figure out due to the complexity of how they are built. Could even have a loose(not sure what its called) but I had the "belts" all come loose on a tranny on my truck and nothing worked. had to have the whole thing rebuilt

Ford e-250 transmission problems

My Econoline 250 with 4.2 lost fluid from hose leak, fixed leak everything was normal for 3 days till I drove it on highway. When it went into overdrive lost forward power. Turned off OD and did ok for a while. Lost forward gears slowly, put in fluid, hard to tell when full. Reverse is fine but have to rev up engine to get forward to engage, then everything is fine at lights and such till take out of drive, then have to rev engine to about 2500rpm to engage drive. Help?

What is wrong with my 2000 toyota camry LE 6 cyl that it takes it a few minutes to engage gear when put into drive?

Could be a front pump, if the vehicle is ran without fluid or the fluid is low for too long the front pump can burn up and cause this problem.

However, if it does this when it is cold it could be a sensor.

Call up the dealer or a shop, ask for service, and talk to them about it. Make sure to call a couple of shops to see if any answers you get are consistent.

I hope this helps!

Hi, I have a 1995 volvo 850 with automatic tranny...all forward gears work fine but reverse does not engage unless you stick your foot out the door and roll the car back 2-4 feet then you can feel reverse...

check the transmition fluid level, ( do this with the engine running & the selector in P) if low top up & see if fault cured
also check fluid is no dis-coloured or smells burnt, if so you may have to drain the transmition & change the filter & fluid, a transmition flush would be a good idea.
if the problem remains it is most likely the seals/clutches in the transmition are worn

Trans still wont engage

If there is no fluid when you take off one of the lines (check both: the cooler might be plugged) while the engine is running, and there is fluid in the trans, then you have a bad pump inside the trans, or the valve body fell off. Either way, it's probably not going to engage. Ever.

Auto trans problem

Transmission fluid is low. Drive the car 15 or 20 miles to heat up the transmission. Check the transmission fluid level with the car running in neutral with the parking brake engaged. Add transmission fluid to come to the full mark. Go slow when adding fluid. DO NOT OVER FILL!! This should fix your problem.
