PVC is threaded into the intake manifold and looks like this;

94 altima gxe, what - c0d3399.jpg Valve cover gaskets are known to need replacing over time and do wear out. if the PVC is clogged so badly that it prevents the engine from expelling crankcase gases, it could cause pressure to build and blow a cover gasket, but it will also cause other gaskets to leak also. It is rare for this to occur in any engine.

Where is my leak coming from?

Juan, Oil could be leaking from a lot of different location, places to start looking are oil pressure switch, valve cover gasket, timing cover/crank seal, oil pan gasket, etc. Engine may have to be washed down to locate leak. Have a good tech. scan vehicle for trouble codes, diagnose why car dose not run and estimate repair. Check the attached links,instruction and guides, Good luck

First stepwould typically be to replace the PCV valve. It's located behind the valve cover at the bottom of the rubber tube that connects to the back of the valve cover and branches off to the air filter housing.

Alternate possibility:

If the head gasket has been replaced, it's likely one of the oil returns is blocked (replacement head gaskets, for whatever reason, don't usually align with the head correctly). The solution is to open the secondary oil return. I used a one foot piece of 4 gauge bare copper wire (more of a 1/4" copper rod). Remove the valve cover. Taper the end of the copper wire to a blunt point and drive it about 6 inches down the oil return on the backside of the head near the rear of the head (directly behind where the oil filler cap was).

My 94 nissan altima is running rough.

The valve cover gasket has nothing to do with the engine running rough. It simply seals the mating suface between the valve cover and the cylinder head. When bad, it will leak some engine oil. It will NEVER cause your problem. I suggest taking it to a reputable repair facility, and never return to the place that gave you the first diagnosis.

Its sputtering and blowing smoke out of the tailpipe. whats the problem?

Hello! #1 question; Is the Check Engine Light (CEL) on? This means the computer has stored a fault and in order to troubleshoot the cause I'll need the code...Take the vehicle to an auto parts store and, for free, they will read the code...Send it to me...

If the CEL is not on; Pull the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve...Give it a shake...If you do not hear the little ball that lives inside rattling around; you have found the fault...Replace PCV valve...
See photo below...The PCV valve is located in the rear valve cover, just behind the throttle body

Where is the PVC valve located on a 2003 Nissan altima se 3.5

You may have to remove the cover from the top of the engine to access the PCV valve. One side of the PCV Valve screws into the Valve Cover, and the other side has a rubber hose connected to the air intake. It is located on the right side of the valve cover.

Which is located above and away from the egr canister under the driver side rear bumper it is round and have about 3 hoses connected to it. if it is from a check engine light that says look at vacume cut valve check the egr canisters purge valve some times they stick and throw the wrong code
